Julia's House for Lost Creatures by Ben Hatke

Julia opens her house, much like a foster family, open to lost creatures who need help getting back on their feet. Many imaginative creatures show up at her door, but then things begin to unravel. The house is a mess and things begin to break. This is a beautiful book of fantasy that children will be sure to enjoy. Even the older fans of Zita the Spacegirl will love this story!

Always a pleasure to read about strong-willed, creative, independent children and their adventures with monsters.

I quite love this book. It is cute and clever and whimsical. It is somewhat vague and simplistic in its words and the art tells more of the story, which I think is a very beautiful angle to come at in a children's book. Very thought-provoking for a child. Teaches the whole show rather than tell deal at an early age and I think that's very important. I also think grown-ups will like it as much as the kids will. It's just that adorable.

Julia's house is empty, so she puts up a sign welcoming lost creatures. With their arrival comes lots of new friends, noise, and messes! She'll have to figure out a way to straighten everything out. Fantastic illustration give this story a whimsical, fairy-tale feeling which jives perfectly with the story.
