This book was a new read for me, outside of my usual choices, however I could not put it down. I think it caused many sleepless nights and itching to continue reading through to the end. The characters were wonderfully developed and portrayed, so much so I could picture them in my head. If you are looking for an action packed, magic filled, roller coaster ride that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next while keeping you on the edge of your seat this is it!
This book pulls you in from the very first page with Teagan helping a teenage witch discover her abilities while attempting to reign in her own emotions after losing her grandmother. She must go through the trials and tribulations of dealing with loss all while trying to get a handle on taking over her inheritance and discovering what exactly comes with being the swamp witch. This is brought to the breaking point when the carnival comes to town, that is bent on destroying what she has built. Is what Teagan’s grandmother taught her enough? Can she find a way to protect all her charges without losing herself in the process? Will the residents of Firewater Springs make it out unscathed? No spoilers given here, you’ll have to read to find out but I assure you that it is well worth the journey!

This is the second book in the Black Water Magic series. I found this book just as interesting as the first one. The descriptive language made a clear picture in my mind’s eye as I read the book. There are plenty of paranormal characters to enhance the romance that is within the book pages. The characters really bring this story to life. The story is set around Teagan and everything that is going on with her. There is a carnival and who doesn't love a good carnival. I highly recommend this book to see how Teagan handles everything.

I enjoyed this paranormal story. This is a newer author for me and I look forward to reading more from her in the future. This is a well written story that brings a carnival to life especially the freakshow that is full of paranormal characters that attack a city. The characters are relatable and brought the story to life. They made the story engaging, fun and entertaining to read. Teagan has so much going on in her life from the death of her grandmother to demons to witches and now the carnival comes to town with a whole lot of trouble. She is now left to defend the town and a powerful ring master that could turn everyone against her. How it all ends, you will have to read this book which I highly recommend. This is a great story that anyone would enjoy. A great paranormal story!

Book 2 in the series. I so enjoy immersing myself in this world where there’s witches, demi-demons, ghosts, werewolves, and more.
Teagan is a kick ass witch who is still exploring who she is as a woman, and now add on being the new Swamp Witch, and all that entails. She cares deeply about her renters and local community, and will put herself at risk for their safety. And the sexual tension Teagan experiences will have you panting for more!
I loved how the focus of the book was on the mystery of who the Carnie people are and what do they want, but tinged with romance. The Carnies were alluring in their creepiness, as well as in their capacity to care. I loved the contrast between those ruling the show and those who were just “along for the ride.”
I also enjoyed reading more about supporting characters Shelley, Oliver and Anna, and how those relationships have grown to have formed a community.
I cannot wait to read more featuring Teagan and gang!

Carnival of Shadows: A Teagan Blackwater Urban Fantasy Novel (Black Water Magic Book 2) by Leslie was a quick and exciting read. The story follows Teagan as she takes on the role of swamp witch in Firewater Springs. It seamlessly weaves her thoughts with each character she encounters and you can feel each of her emotions as she struggles to find her way. I found myself rooting for her as she made difficult decisions and feeling heartache as she encountered it. If you enjoyed The Mortal Instruments series, this is the perfect book for you. Hoping to see more adventures with Teagan and the gang in Firewater Springs.

Carnival of Shadows is the second book in the Black Water Magic series by Leslie Scott. I love a great paranormal romance, so when I saw this it captured my attention immediately. I didn’t notice that it was the second book in the series, but the story was easy to follow and I didn’t feel like I was ‘lost’ or confused with the storyline. But having said that, my curiosity about past means I will definitely be going back to read book #1 before continuing the series.
No spoilers from me- the blurb does a great snapshot of what to expect so all I will say is- with interesting and quirky characters, a enticing storyline, a bizarre carnival, mystery, witches, shifters, demons, and more- there is plenty here to entice any paranormal romance lover.
Thank you, Leslie Scott!

Carnival of Shadows is a Teagan Blackwater Urban Fantasy Novel by Leslie Scott and is the second book in the Black Water Magic series. Vampires and witches, werewolves and demons are what you will encounter in this quirky, fun, and entertaining paranormal tale. Leslie Scott knows urban fantasy and writes it so well that you do not want to put down.
The carnival is not your normal carnival. Grab a drink and curl up to enjoy the ride.
