Wonderfully sweet love story. I quite enjoyed the twist on the Cupid angle, with Devin being a matchmaker instead of the traditional woman filling the role.

This was a pretty good historical romance but I think I’m a little iffy on how much I liked it. This boils down not to my enjoyment of the characters or the plot, I actually was just annoyed by what I felt was an excessive use of exclamation points. Weird, I know, but there was some dialogue that I almost recoiled from because I had to re-read, trying to imagine how or why the hero was finishing his sentences with an exclamation point. Outside of that, I actually really loved the story. A duke’s daughter is entering her third season and instead of becoming “on-the-shelf” her family enlists the help of a matchmaker. Not too uncommon except this matchmaker is also a successful horse breeder nicknamed Cupid. Amanda and Devin have an almost instant dislike of each other. Devin has no problem telling it like it is and Amanda is not used to people being so honest with her. I love the interactions and fights these two get in to. Their chemistry is almost instant and I really loved the battles they faced opening up to the love developing between them. I guess you could say that overall I did enjoy the story, odd dialogue choices aside. The Mallory series is still my favorite from Johanna Lindsey but the Reed series is a fun read.

I used to love Johanna Lindsey novels as a nineteen year old. But six years later, I've realized that 'oh-so-handsome' muscled men and exquisitely beautiful and dainty little princesses are no longer my thing. I suppose there are just some books that you simply outgrow, and this recent novel of hers made me see that. It's still fairly entertaining, though, despite the cringeworthy moments.

Good book. Amanda has begun her third Season and is still looking for a husband. She doesn't understand why she hasn't immediately fallen in love with someone. When she encounters Devin at a ball, she takes an instant dislike to him, especially when he starts giving her unwanted advice. Devin has set up a new horsebreeding farm near London and has started attending events in order to make more contacts for his business. He has fallen into matchmaking because of his ability to match up people he thinks would suit outside of the usual methods. He is also very blunt and doesn't dress things up in pretty words. When Amanda sets her sights on a gentleman who is horse mad, she finds she needs to learn to ride in a hurry. Even though she doesn't like him, she starts riding lessons with Devin. Over the weeks of her lessons, she finds herself losing her antagonism to Devin and enjoying his company. She finds him very easy to talk to, and his patience in getting her over her fear of riding was just what she needed. The only thing she can't understand is why she keeps thinking about him instead of the man she had picked out. Devin finds Amanda incredibly attractive and not a little frustrating. But he is a bastard and knows that there is no way he could ever win her for himself. He tells Amanda of his birth to scare her off from the attraction she feels and is stunned to find that it doesn't matter at all to her. When she is attacked, he rescues her and while comforting her their passion takes over. When he tells her she must forget about him, she rides off with him chasing her and someone shoots at them. Devin takes off to find out who is father is, for he feels that he is the one trying to kill him. The revelations that come out are very interesting and explain a lot of things that had been happening. I really liked the ending, and how Amanda's father and brother treat Devin. Overall, I really liked the book. The only problem I had with this one, was the frequent use of contractions such as "a'tall", "m'dear" and so on. It may be the way it sounded when they talked, but reading it was very distracting.

It started a little slow, and I felt the ending was lacking some how. Overall it was a good book, I have read better from Johanna Lindsey.

A lot better than previous books. Both H and h were decent characters. These books shouldn't be labeled as Reid family though it should be the Locke family. Again not as much about how beautiful Ophelia is, thank you Lord.

A woman decides to face a lifelong fear to better position herself to win the heart of a man she barely knows. A man decides to help her win this man because her family pays him.
I really enjoyed the interactions between the two main characters. Sometimes with Johanna Lindsey's books, and older romance in general, male characters will be one dimensional or ignored completely. However, it was nice to see how he interacted with other characters. This may be a trope I should be paying attention to, but I enjoy pseudo enemies to lovers. I don't think I like people who are actually enemies and have very different beliefs and values getting together. Without any common ground, it is difficult to believe such relationships.

Devin Baldwin is the talk of the ton with the nickname of Cupid. He earned the moniker by matching women up with a gentleman who has the same interests so that they can have a long happy marriage. He however is a sworn bachelor who has a dark secret keeping him from having his own love match. Amanda Locke is in her 3rd season and while several men find her very attractive she is holding out hope for a love match. Amanda meets Devin and his straightforward unapologetic attitude rubs her the wrong way from the very start. Being that this is her 3rd season she is willing to give it a renewed effort to find a husband and Devin takes her on as a challenge even though she is not happy to take his advice. His efforts cause them to spend more time together where they start to unbeknownst to each other they are beginning to fall in love. I enjoyed this story and found their relationship to be cute and fun to read.
