I always enjoy a good bookshop story and that's why I picked up this book. The book contains a pretty simple story. It is about new beginnings, mending long broken relations, healing one's soul and forgiving. It had its up and down, little twists and turns. The slowly developing friendship between Madeline, Janet and Claire was nice to read. All the literary references in the book had a sort of comfortable feeling.

The book is written from the point of views of the three ladies. Some of the chapters were written from first person point of view and some from the third person point of view and it was really bugging me. All in all it wasn’t a very exceptional book but it had a nice cozy and comfortable feeling about it.

A tad too religion-oriented in its approach to problem solving (it’s obvious that the author is a devout Catholic, Nd that doesn’t ring true with the characters) so the attitude changes that bring about resolution is all a little too pat. But the setting is great fun and I’m a sucker for happily ever afters

This is a book for booklovers! Not only does it take place in a bookstore, but you'll find yourself enjoying hints and themes from some of your favorite classics. The character development of this book is impeccable. You become so deeply invested in the characters that it is so difficult to see the book come to an end. A story about friendship, compassion, forgiveness, and new beginnings; this book will leave you better than you started.

I found this book to be just “fine.” While things ended up tied up in a pretty little bow, there just wasn’t much to it. The characters are endearing, the storyline is intriguing; yet, I just didn’t LOVE the book. There were a few things I did love - the main character, Madeline, ended up somewhere she would’ve never dreamed to have been in her life and adjusted. Janet, who starts out very hardened, though a priest, begins to pray and totally softens up and comes around. I loved, loved, loved that aspect of the book. Claire’s family ends up in a much better place than where they started as well. The bookshop is saved, and there’s an all around happy ending. Typically, this is all it takes for me to love a book, but this one just sort of fell short.

3.5 stars. This was a sweet story with well-developed characters. Yes, there’s a happy ending, but each of the main characters goes through some solid (and believable) personal growth along the way.

This book surprised me. I enjoyed the multigenerational storyline of the various main characters in the book. One lady in her 30's single. Another in her 40's with kids. And a third in her 50's divorced. It was interesting to read their struggles side by side with the other ladies in other seasons of life.

“Dear World, this may sound slutty, but I loved to be used. Love, Grammar”

Just one of the fantastic lines in this amazingly fantastic feel good book! I loooooooved this book!
I love books with a good snarky character and Janet did not let me down.

I also love how the men in this story are ancillary and supportive, the plot doesn’t rely on them to move anything along.

The women are written from a place of such depth and an appreciation for their points in life relative to their ages. A truly great feel good story that I, as a library worker, will recommend again and again!

This was a slow start for me but gained ground once I could get a grip on each character. In the author’s signature sweet but not overly sappy style, this book follows the lives of three women as they reach pivotal moments of growth.
