Okay so this one was much better than Outbound Flight and I wish that I'd known to pick this one up first. This one is really well done and so movie-like. Maybe they should have gotten Zahn to write the scripts for the new Star Wars Movies.

Timothy Zahn's Star Wars novels about Luke and Mara were so formative for me as a youth. I've reread these so many times.

this book confirms mara and luke aren't in love and just got married for space tax benefits
JK but it does fit with that reading so it was alright. i just read darksaber!!! i was worried!!!!!! all that callista "oh no me and luke's possible future babies" garbage. instead here we get mara jade investigations with luke as her sidekick. iconic
worst luke moments: having him think to himself that he has the worst fashion there. PLEASE. did you see ep6. did you remember the bs that thrass is described as wearing in outbound flight. there's no way. absolutely no way. why is the phrase "bolero jacket" in this book.
"combination fork-knife" HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO YOU EAT WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm glad i didn't read this before outbound flight though because i like lorana's story being about just herself and not for her brother's manpain :|
of all the things i expected this book to be about, it sure wasn't "remember that bit in vision of the future where parck is like MARA PLEASE JOIN THE HAND CASTLE and mara is like, buddy wtf, but if parck did it a second time AFTER mara blew up part of the hand castle and she actually CONSIDERS IT" which is like. the funniest thing i can imagine. why is that the true premise of this book. i love it though. can't wait for the sequel where the second thrawn clone shows up like "heyyyyy can you remind me what brooch you were wearing again thx"
combination fork-knife.

Timothy Zahn lit a fire in the Star Wars universe several years ago when he authored the Thrawn trilogy, beginning with Heir to the Empire. He resumes telling the story of Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker in Survivor’s Quest, sort of a mystery, which also explores Mara’s doubts about her chosen path. An entertaining read. Zahn is also working on a followup to this novel.

This was an okay read. The plot was decent and moved along quickly after the "first act", but a lot of the dialog was clunky and didn't feel at all natural.
Especially now that this is part of the Star Wars canon that's been tossed out with The Force Awakens, you can safely skip this one.
