Wow!! What a ride! I think doing a reread of these series finally and doing the audiobooks on the Libby App, these have been like reading them again for the first time and I realized how much I didn't remember this one if I'm being honest here. But goodness I seriously loved this one like crazy. The story was good, I loved Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, but mainly Zach even more and was reminded why I loved these characters way too much and wish they were on screen.

So I'm doing a whole new review since I could actually appreciate this one so much more the second time through. So the only thing I can only say again and will probably say again haha is that one day I'm still going to hope in my own little fantasy world that these books are turned into a crime show series and I just want to see both Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald of the NYPD Red task force come to life! Now I seriously can't WAIT to keep doing my reread for these and then seeing that there's a 6th book coming in hopefully next year (2020) I'm even more stoked and glad to be rereading and now listening to these again.

This is a fun series. It’s quick, fast-paced, and requires very little thinking which can be great when reading sometimes.

NYPD Red 2- the book that just kept on giving. A well worthy 3.5*.

I love James Patterson and enjoyed the progression from NYPD Red to NYPD Red 2.

Plot

The plot was so much stronger in this one. The red herrings were a masterpiece and had me confused right until the end. I guessed the plot on the first book and so in comparison this plot was miles better. I loved the focus with the idea of the vigilante where you can’t hate them because they are creating the justice that families cannot receive from the justice system. However, Patterson highlights the effects of the heroes of vigilantes and how they can attack innocent people as well and so really are the same as murderers. This book really enlightened me on this matter and so I really enjoyed it.

Characters

Damn. In comparison to the other Patterson books, the characters are so much weaker in this book. I can’t increase the ratings because of the importance of the characters as a component in the book. Detective Jordan’s messed up love life really puts me off the book and distracts me from the exciting and interesting plot. He loves his ex but he is with the psychologist- god, make your mind up.

I really enjoyed this book but the characters are too weak for it to be a high class thriller (like Private).

Love when several story lines come together to a satisfying conclusion. Will be reading the rest of the NYPD Red series.

I enjoyed the second novel better than the first! In NYPD Red 2, there were 3 different storylines that worked to create the overall plot.

I think the storylines each in themselves were interesting enough, and could have been the baseline for the entire novel themselves, however the three of them working together created a plot that was hard to put down.

It’s a basic James Patterson thriller in the sense that it’s fast and easy to get through, the ending becomes predictable as you get closer, however there was a bit of a twist in this one.

The tempo stays pretty high, with every thread but one paying off somewhere. Didn't care too much for the subplot with Spencer. Not much reason for it, outside of tying it to the first book. The mafioso subplot kept the tension up, even while the main plot would slow down. Fun, quick read (or listen).

Do you believe the elite deserve their own police force? NYPD Red follows the members of such a force, detectives Jordan and MacDonald. In addition to having a wonderful working relationship filled with give-and-take yet hilarious dialogue, Jordan and MacDonald are former lovers with sexual tension. It adds another level to the story that makes it personal as well as professional.

NYPD Red 2 begins with the death of a mob boss' son and doesn't slow down at all. I read the entire book in a few hours, I simply could not put it down! Another great work by Mr. Patterson and another highly recommended book.

If you like crime dramas, give this one a read. You certainly do not need the background of the first book, it works fine as a stand alone.
