I had read most of King's earlier work, but skipped over this one. The premise of the story was okay, but I never really felt any connections to Charlie or Andy. She seemed really immature for the age that she was supposed to be. I can cross it off my list, but it's not my favorite of his works.

Typical King writing women in gross ways, but he kept me engaged from beginning to end.

This book had enough elements in it that I liked to keep me reading it but, I was just not invested in the story. It didn't have very well developed characters that I cared about what happened to them in the end.

I'm trying to do a better job of sharing my thoughts shortly after reading a book after my longish absence. I just finished Firestarter and I really enjoyed it! I'm not really sure if it's actually because it's good or if it's just that I like the topic and I like Stephen King. It really reminds me of The Institute, almost like it's a precursor or something. I like his fascination with this topic and I feel like it makes it even more fun because of that. I know, online, I've seen a lot about this being a mediocre book - I feel like it's pretty good though. I would read it again. I like it more than Carrie but I think less than the Holly series. I've heard that Fairytale is a little bit difficult because of how he writes his kids. I do kind of wish that he would stick with '70s and '80s stories to make life easier, but I completely understand why he doesn't; I think he just wants to try and stay current. I'm excited to see what else I can read from this time period of his writing, especially if it has to do with psychic gifts.

I enjoyed the beginning as Charlie and Andy were on the run from The Shop. The flashbacks detailing how Andy and his wife volunteered for the experiment was so interesting and I wish it would have been more of a focus. Unfortunately, I just didn’t care about the characters and was super bored. The paedophilia was also unexpected and gross.
