Well, of course the Reapers are waiting for her. They need to kill Nike's Champion. Yeah, so maybe it was the wrong time to read this one or something because Midnight Frost did not seem as engaging as the other books in the series. Having read numerous other reviews though, I seem to be in the minority, or rather, the only one, so I'm thinking the fault may lie in my mindset when I read it and not in the book itself. So I'll just do a mini review.

I really missed Logan in this one. I mean he was there but the relationship between he and Gwen was very different. I missed the banter and the fun. I think I'm struggling with believing four kids can kill a train car full of Reapers all without getting hurt. It was a little over the top for me.

Now what I loved was how Gwen found the exact thing they needed for the antidote. And I also loved visiting another Academy, meeting new students, and hiking to a ruins on the top of a mountain in WINTER! (in Colorado)! That was unbelievable. And the description of the ruins made it sound so beautiful, like paradise on the top of the mountain. But, of course, there is always the threat of a reaper attack. I also LOVED how Gwen got up in Logan's business about how he wasn't the only one that was hurt and afraid. I think Logan is a little bit selfish, a little bit woe is me. Yes, he went through something traumatic, but so did Gwen. She died! So, of the two, if she can go back to Mythos and wants to see him, he needs to get off the couch and be the Spartan we know he can be. Then of course, I loved the whole time with the Griffins.

So I suppose it really was that I missed the banter with Logan. I hate to think that is the only thing that makes me read this series because I've read five books and one or two novellas. It's not all about the romance. Or is it?

I received an e-ARC from the publisher through NetGalley for review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Kind of a stepping stone of the series. But I love that Gwen is totally a badass in her own right and actually, you know kills a couple people, and actually holding her own against people now.

*****
J'adore le cover. I. LOVE. IT. It has a kick-ass feel, and the purple gray actually compliments Gwen's eyes. EEEEP.

The twist and turns just keep coming. Didn't see this one coming though I guess it makes since with what has happened in the other books. Gwen states what I've been think, how she and her friends are just pieces in the gods war. I enjoyed reading this book though they are good characters are use humor, snark, and seriousness that creates a world you don't want to leave.

Ohboy! I can't tell how awesome and exciting book this was. I think this is the best book in the series. It was so awesome. Glad to meet some new characters, new secrets revealed. But I hope The secret behind Grysons are out soon. or Frost's ability to see them move. I missed Logan but He did ave an awesome entry because My heart was broken too with Frost! Never Logan Freaking Quinn ...Never leave us!! WE LOVE YOU! You all are going to love this action packed book . the things are getting more complicated I can tell! Now WAIT for KILLER FROST !

Even though I gave this installment 4 stars, I still skimmed a lot of the book. I like all of Jennifer Estep's series, but she does tend to repeat herself a lot. Some of it was predictable, like Covington, but I really enjoyed meeting Rory and the new mythical creature that appears. Even though there is stuff going on between Gwen and Logan, it wasn't that angsty.

Onto Killer Frost! I can't wait to see how this story ends.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Mythos Academy series since I first read Touch of Frost. It’s got a fantastic mix of mythological creatures, adventure and drama with just a dash of romance to keep things interesting.

Midnight Frost is the fifth book and things just keep getting more dangerous for Gwen Frost and her friends. Gwen’s part-time job at the Library of Antiquities is anything but safe when a Reaper breaks in and tries to poison her. The Reaper may have failed to kill Gwen but Head Librarian Nickamedes was not quite so lucky. With the poison running through his veins and not even the healing gift of Mythos’ own headmistress able to cure him, it’s up to Gwen and the gang to save him. Cue a mission to another campus of the Mythos Academy, this time in the snowy mountains to collect a flower only known to be grown there. Convenient right?

Okay, slightly unbelievable coincidence aside, this was a great instalment to the Mythos series. Gwen and her friends are more becoming more and more capable with every adventure. The gifts from the Gods are helping on their quest to defeat Loki and his followers but sometimes not even Nike can save them from falling into the Reapers evil traps.
Gwen is maturing and finding her feet nicely. She’s gone from the Gypsy girl who took unnecessary risks just because she could to now being a formidable fighter in her own right. And there’s that gorgeous Spartan, Logan Quinn, who may be out of sight but he’s never far from Gwen’s thoughts.

We get to see a different side to the Gypsy girl with some family secrets revealed and Nike enlightening us a little more as to just how she expects Gwen to defeat Loki in the final showdown.
In many ways, this book was slightly less exciting than previous books in the series. It starts slow with a lot of information and whatnot being imparted. But thankfully the second half was fantastic with the adventure and Gwen’s amazing ability to tame the wicked beasts. I thought some parts were rather predictable and was desperately hoping Gwen would work out just what was what before she did. That said, things came to a brilliant climax and I can’t say I was disappointed with how everything went down.

A fantastic addition to the series – I can’t wait to see what Jennifer Estep comes up with next for the Gypsy girl, her Spartan Warrior and all their fighting friends.
