There were things in the book that I liked, some I didn't. To start with, the plot itself is actually quite clever and well thought of. The main character himself carried a good balance of wits and humor, which played well with his interactions with the other characters of the book.
The main problem with the book that I found was it's narration. While the tone was set to a very relatable, unobnoxious style, it was also quite dull at times. I did not find the text appealing or engaging enough, even if the plot worked really hard in the favor of the book.
Overall, there was nothing that stood out to me. It was an interesting read, a good way to pass an afternoon, but nothing about it would seem to make you be invested in it.

Michael Connelly is my new favorite myster/legal thriller writer. This continues the story of The Lincoln Lawyer, and includes Connelly's earlier recurring character, Harry Bosch. I am now going back and reading earlier Connelly novels featuring Bosch. The story is good, the writing is excellent - kind of that quick paced, sharp type of narrative. And there's enough angst in the protagonist to create layers of stories. Love it.

This sequel is a bit straightforward and anticlimactic, but it remains fun to watch criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller at work, staying narrowly inside the ethical bounds of his profession in general and covering his tracks well when circumstances lead him to stray. In this volume, another lawyer has been killed, leaving instructions that our protagonist is to take over all his active cases, including an upcoming high-profile murder trial with a client who refuses to delay. The main appeal of the story for most readers is probably that Mickey finally meets his half-brother Harry Bosch, the LAPD detective and hero of other books by author Michael Connelly, although the two men don't share as many scenes together as I'd like. I've still enjoyed the read for its solid courtroom drama, but haven't found the novel overall to be as twisty or clever as the original Lincoln Lawyer.

This book more closely reflects season one of the Netflix series. Nothing to write home about - just an easy read as I work.
