Exercised: Why Something We Never Evolved to Do Is Healthy and Rewarding by Daniel E. Lieberman
3.0
Name an illness. Go ahead. Anything.
Diverticulitis? Sure. Cancer? Yup. Arachnophobia? Probably.
Know what will help with that?
If you guessed exercise, specifically moderate intensity cardio exercise, even most specifically, running, then you know what to expect from this book. Weights help too, but the author obviously does not like lifting weights and he kind of treats them like a nice ex-girlfriend. Sure, you may like her and by all accounts she's a great person, but he doesn't really like discussing her qualities.
And then follow it with a disclaimer that of course exercise is not a panacea and you can still get sick and you should always check with your doctor and follow all medical advice. Also no shame because we've evolved to hate exercise.
But if you don't exercise you will have worse outcomes and probably die earlier than you would otherwise due to all the horror stories that are currently happening in your body while you sit and read this. But no pressure. Oh, also eat healthy.
Now you've read this book.
3 stars because it encouraged me to do HIIT twice a week regardless.
