This book was even better than the first one! What I loved the most was the inclusion of characters with different abilities and backgrounds. The inclusion of a deaf character as well as the character(s) that seemed to have different religions was awesome to see included in this book -- women wearing hijabs. I could read these graphic novels every day forever and never get tired of them.

This is a really fun book with great characters (including a fabulous grouchy cat!), just enough magic and lots of intrigue!

I’m not gonna lie when I say the book is cute and had potential. But unfortunately it fell short of my expectations. The book does have spelling and grammar errors too which is something you should double check before having your book published. And there are several spells that are missing the ingredients.

This book, and the entire trilogy, is such a relaxing read. Just a cozy feeling all the way through. I wish it didn't end.

I should stop reading bad modern "poetry" books just because I like their covers. I REALLY SHOULD.

I didn’t feel anything gut-wrenching or deep from the poems in this collection, but I felt like they all had the potential to grow into something more. I think another issue contributing to that was the lack of poetic devices, like unique metaphors or unexpected analogies. Chisala relied a little too heavily on one of my least favorite techniques–hitting the “enter” button after a line to add emphasis. I’ve noticed it becoming increasingly persistent in most of the modern poetry books I read. I just find it to be a cheap and over-dramatic way of making something stand out. Rather than letting words speak for themselves, they are separated to make you pay attention to each one.

2.5 stars**

First
of all.
This
style
does not
make
anything
you
write
poetry.

Second, I feel like Nayyirah is trying to push an agenda and it came off as racist at times I understand her points but the theme was unclear and inconsistent. The author is very bitter and negative. I understand not all poems are positive but this book is just filled with pure hate.

Everytime I read a new modern poetry book I hate it more and more. Modern "poetry" doesn't look like poetry anymore. It's just a bunch of quotes, unrelated verses or a 12 year old's diary with dramatic personal experiences no one needs to know. Thankfully this one wasn't a bunch of Tumblr quotes but it was a dramatic teenager's diary. The author here was trying to be as dramatic as possible in each and every poem in this book which made the collection less relatable or realistic. She kept exaggerating throughout the entire book especially in "A Plague Of Doubts" omg how annoying and self-pitying this poem was. And "The Opposite Of Up" was a collection of cringy pick up lines, just look at this:
"Do you have a band-aid? Cause I scraped my knee falling for your bullshit."
"Baby, you must be a magician because abraca-FUCKYOU."
"Was your daddy a sewer worker? Cause you are full of shit."

Uhmm, EXCUSE ME ?? Am I in some sort of Facebook page or smth 'cause I don't understand how this is even in a book.
I liked some of the poems though, like "Cooking With Tears" even though it looked nothing like a poem but I just liked its concept. 2 stars for the poetry and another star just because of how perfect the book's cover is.

"There is nothing like new memories to make you forget those who hurt you"
It was good but maybe just not for me, I recommend it to anyone who was in a toxic relationship before.

i should never have let you mistake my kindness for weakness

you are the only one
you truly need

your smile
is the most beautiful sunrise

Hmm... is this original? I don't think so. I've read most of these "poems" - more like quotes - before on the internet.
