eh? i've read lang leav once before, and didn't like the poems. the style is my issue, it's so not for me. i have the same issue here. i liked this collection a tiny bit more than love & misadventure, but it's still not something i could emotionally connect with.

the first word that comes to mind when thinking about this novel is wonderful. it follows tova, a woman who befriends an octopus called marcellus during an incredibly difficult period of her life. and the octopus helps her in more ways than one could imagine. the novel is so unique, i absolutely loved the story. it was super emotionally moving, because the story is well developed but so are the characters. it's amazing when an author is able to write an octopus into this convincing of a character. i literally liked the marcellus pov most of all. i also thought the writing was wonderful, so many beautiful sentences. i did hate cameron, though, not a fan.

this was so cute!! a seemingly simple story, but it actually discusses a lot. various emotions, friendships with animals, family dynamics, growing up, etc. a cozy and precious read and a simple writing style (i mean that as a compliment here). so sweet, i love it when people befriend animals :')

wilde knows how to write questionable / unlikable characters well, that's for sure. anyway, i think the story is well written, intriguing, and has a good message. the descriptions here were super beautiful ^^

i feel the exact same way i felt about the first book in this series / collection. thematically good, but it doesn't make me emotional because of the flat style. i just don't think amanda lovelace's work is for me.

the kind of modern poetry i dislike. not for its theme, not for its message, since i think both of those are good. but the style and formatting ... so bland and uninspiring. evokes absolutely no emotion.

hmmm ... pretty average? things i loved would be the concept, the imagery, the spirits, and the atmosphere. some descriptions were nice too, the writing was okay overall. what i didn't like is the mystery aspect because it wasn't mysterious at all to me, and i would've liked the characters to be better developed.

really sweet and simple story, and it's well written. i just don't like it as much as wilde's other work because i don't find it as memorable ^^
