A Lucky Child: A Memoir of Surviving Auschwitz as a Young Boy by Thomas Buergenthal

Every once in a while, I enjoy a good memoir and this was definitely one of those. It is amazing to see how many people can influence one life and make a difference in a person's survival. This one will stay with you long after the last page.
Beyond the Eyes by Rebekkah Ford

I actually loved this book. For a first read, and a first in the series I was really impressed. I'm normally not into Young Adult type stuff as much, but this one really got my attention. I want to read the next ones in the series and need to find them on Kindle. I read this one entirely in braille using the Kindle app. I was hooked from the beginning. I thought it was going to be one of those predictable young adult supernatural type things but there were enough twists to keep me guessing from the very beginning. i can't wait to read the next ones. Stay tuned for a review here.
The Shambling Guide to New York City by Mur Lafferty

This has turned out to be an addictive series. I can't wait to read the second one. Awesome book!! Keep them coming Mur Lafferty. You have a new fan. Lol. I had my doubts at first but it hooked its claws in me, sank its fangs in me, and next thing you know, I'm wrapped up in the coterie world right along with Zoe. I can't wait for the rest.
Artificial Evil by Colin F. Barnes

Excellent book. It's been a while since a scifi novel like this hooked me but it did. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller

I have to say, I absolutely loved this book. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and have been away from the Star Wars universe for while, just staying busy and in general not sure where to dive back in at since there's so much now to go back through, but I'm glad I took this dive. I listened to the audio version of this book, and, marc Thompson did a phenomenal job of bringing the story to life and sucking you right in. I now begin to think Count Vidien is more evil and darker than Vader ever thought about being but I digress. Somebody else can let me know what you think, but suffice it to say I'm glad O chose to dive back in here and I'm diving even deeper from here on out. enjoy folks and happy reading.
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
3.0
This was an interesting read. I've wanted to read this one for years, but never got around to it for one reason or another. I've heard it referenced in English lit, both in highschool and in college, but I just nevertook the time to read it for one reason or another. I'm glad I did. I gave it three stars for the simple fact it was an odd book and a bit dark in some areas, but overall not a bad read. I liked it a lot better than the movie, even though the movie was a Stanley Keubrik masterpiece, in it's own right, there was just some things he couldn't hit on in the movie that Mr Burgess brought to life so well. It's definitely a classic, if you like George Orwell, this one is definitely worth reading. I forget the narrator's name from Nls Bard, the braille and Audio Reading download that I get a lot of my books from, but it's the classic version on he does so well with the language, namely Nadsat, A made-up language Anthony Burgess created just for this book, that it flowed wonderfully. A fairly easy read, but I think I'm going to follow ip with some nonfiction something next unless something else catches my eye or I go back and finish some of my currently reading things here. Lol. Anyway, I recommend this for anybody looking for a classic, with just a bit of a different flavor. Good Friday morning yall.
Season to Taste by Natalie Young
1.0
I'm not done with this book yet, but it's definitely an interesting one. It was recommended to me by a patron early this month, andI have to say, they were right. It's a dark twisted novel but you can't put it down, you keep reading just to see where Ms Young is going with it. I'm beginning to like it in all its twisted quirkiness. I'm sure I'll have more to say on it when I finish it, but, if this is a debut, what else does she have in store. I'm betting Natalie Young is going to be one to watch over time.
In cleaning up my goodreads, I noticed I haven't updated a few. But, I did finish this twisted ride and I have to say, even now, as I look back on finishing it, it still sticks with you long after that last page is read. I finished it last year and still can remember it as vividly as the first time reading it and it's definitely not for the feint of heart, or not for those that can't handle a little dark every once in a while. It's definitely one that will give you a ride on a seat on the crazy train for sure, but it's a trip you have to see to the end just to see where she might go with it. I want to see what else she may write or has written just so I can see what else she's capable of creating. This was an amazing first novel and as my patron put it "you won't ever forget it." That's the definite truth. Grab a copy if you want something a bit off the beaten path, albeit that dark path you might want to carry a flashlight down. And hope the blasted thing stays on. Enjoy yall, and happy reading.

Love in Lowercase by Francesc Miralles

I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I'm not normally one to gravitate towards this type of book, but Mirales's writing style, felt like a relaxing stroll through the busy streets of Barcellona on a warm day with a light breeze. I was interested to see how it all ended up. The quirky professor and the characters he came in contact with seemed to lliterally come to life at Mirales's pin. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought. It wasn't your typical lust-filled forlorn lovestory, it actually had some meat and content, not to mention the light humor that kept it moving. Now, don't get me wrong, I like a good romance from time to time but this slightly off the beaten path book was just the kind of spring read I needed. I listened to the audio version and Scott Iello's narration fit so well with the writing style it just flowed. I loved it. Not so much to give it a 5 star rating, but close.
