Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor
5.0
This was a surprisingly good read for sure. If you like a bit of dark humor and a twisted storyline you just have to finish to believe this is the ride for you! It's the safest acid free acid trip you can ever take. +with some pretty good quotes to boot). I got sucked in and couldn't leave it alone. Andy Pyle, an NLS narrator, did this version while Cecil Baldwin did the Audible version. In this case, I liked the nls narration a bit better. Cecil seemed oddly enough, a little overexaggerated in some spots and not enough in others. Pyle was balanced all the way through and kept you hooked even with the odd flow and language. I do need to catch up on the podcast though. Anyway, enjoy, and happy reading.
Slade House by David Mitchell

If you're looking for a fun, dark, twisted trip through the craziest funhouse you've ever set foot in, this is it. I've not read anything in the horror genre in a long while that had so many twists, turns, and in general, such a wild ride as this one. I read the first half last weekend and wrapped it up tonight and it was a ride from start to finish. It helped too that I actually read this one and didn't listen to the audio version. I got totally engrossed in this book and was literaly blown away while getting swept away at the same time. If you like a thrilling suspenseful horror read, with some supernatural fun thrown in throughout, not overpoweringly so, but enough to make it fun this is your read. I'd recommend though, you get a pot of coffee ready. You won't want to put it down for a break, you'll want to stay awake and hold on for this. It's all the description gives, and so much more. They would have a hard time making a movie as elaborate as this. Have fun, hold on, and enjoy the read yall. Seriously. And, leave that house at the end of the alley alone if you want to continue existing. I mean it. Don't touch that door. Goodnight yall. Sweet dreams.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I loved this one. It's probably one of the best epic reads I've read this year. I hated to get to the end of it, but the diverse parade of characters throughout the book made it all the more interesting and played a big part in grabbing you and sucking you right into it. Neil Gaimen did a fabulous job, and this, the Tenth Aniversary edition had some added text along with the audio production, added a lot of flavor that wouldn't have been there otherwise. It helped to make it a more immersive experience. I couldn't put it down. I'm not giving any of this one away, but I have to say, this was the best twisted road trip I've been on. Happy reading yall. It deserves 5 stars most definitely.
A Duke to Remember by Kelly Bowen

As romances and regency Romances taking place in England dealing with royalty, it was ok. The narration was pretty fitting though and she did characters realy well. I'll have to go back and look at the narrator's name again because it escapes me at the moment, but she did a pretty good job even with the different accents, French especially. The plot was fairly predictable though, but if you want something light with just enough fluff to make it interesting you'll like this one. However, I had to find a powerhouse next so I've got a new one started that promises to deliver some spy action I enjoy from time to time. Anyway, happy reading, and good Saturday yall.
The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth
5.0
This was an amazing read. I've not read a novel of this magnitude in forever. I know now why this was one of Forsyth's best books. It's a suspenseful thriller that will keep you on your seat for the whole ride. I started reading it in braille and just didn't have time to delve too deeply into it. However, I found a copy in audio, read by the legendary Guy Sorel, one of NLS's classic narrators and was instantly sucked in. I know there was a movie, but I haven't brought myself to see it yet. It's one of those, I'm afraid the story will be ruined if I see it, the book was so good. Even for it's time period it still held up, with just enough nostalgia to give you a warm fuzzy all the while keeping a Bondesque feel all the way through. I enjoyed it. If you're looking for a suspenseful political thriller with a bit of espionage thrown in, and a dash of Bond, this one will do it. Have fun guys, and stay tuned, I'm reading another good one.
Generation V by M.L. Brennan

I've read a lot of vampire books. Heck, I even fell into the Twilight saga for the vampires and the hype surrounding it, and it was ok. Of course I'm a sucker for anything vampire, werewolf, shapeshifter whatever. I even dove into the True Blood series. Nothing was like this. It's been a long time since I've stumbled onto a vampire novel that kept me engaged from start to finish like this one did. was truly curious to see if Fortitude Scott would pull it all together or if he would get his butt kicked in the process and how bad. But, it didn't turn into a trainwreck at all. I was truly curious to see how the story wrapped up, and ML Brennan did a fabulous job of pulling you in from the very start. I can't say enough about this book, and the Nls narration by Alec Vols was phenomenal. I am about to start Iron Night and I'm excited to see if it will hold up to the first book. Here's hoping it will. I'll let you know. I was going to binge watch a show or two on netflix, but, this might just put that on hold for the moment. Happy reading yall.

Great monster tale!!
I was hooked on the first fe
just pages of this book. The characters were likeable and you were drawn into the village life of Bobsbradoe just as if you were a part of the family as it were of fishermen and simple folk. I'd definitely read more by Peter Treymane when I could.

Infected by Scott Sigler

This is a five-star blockbuster if I ever saw one. I was sucked in from the start and it never let up until the very end. But, you know there's more and I can't wait to dive into more. Scott Siegler's character development and the way he sets a scene is phenomenal. Subtle at first, but then not so much. I loed this joyride and recommend it to anybody wanting a gripping read that doesn't mind a little gore and violence but wants a strong developing plot. I'm not going to rehash the synopsis here, you can see it here, but know if you're debating on whether to read it or not, take a chance. I did and I don't regret it. About to dive into the second one today.
The Night the Lights Went Out by Karen White
5.0
This book drewme from the very beginning. I normally don't get yanked in on something like this as deeply, but Karen White wrote an awesome book from the very first page and it didn't stop. I never would have predicted the twist she threw in, even though breadcrumb hints were scattered frequently through the book, it still took my breath away. In explaining to people what it reminded me of, I said Steel Magnolias met with a touch of Murder She Wrote maybe, or a touch of suspense, so you got it all wrapped up in one package. And, even an ending to make you smile too. Awesome book. It definitely deserves the 5 star rating and it also brought me out of my book slump I had found myself in. I'm glad to be awake again, as it were. It was sweet without being sickeningly so, and suspenseful enough, you actually kept your fingernails intact, instead of gnawing them off in the first 30 pages. Good job Karen White. I need to read the rest of your books, starting now. Enjoy yall, and watch out. The book nerd, is back. And with a vengeance. I hope yall enjoy this one and are as surprised by it as I was.
