My Husband by Maud Ventura

Unhinged women and books that reflect upon the impact of the patriarchy on the psychology of wives and mothers... my cup of tea.
They Can't Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and a New Era in America's Racial Justice Movement by Wesley Lowery
3.0
Good to have some context on Ferguson. Even though it happened in my city, being a white high schooler at the time insulated me from learning much about the details. It's wild that this book is already so out of date.
I Survived Capitalism and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt by Madeline Pendleton
4.5
wonderful memoir from an incredibly interesting person.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
3.0
Painfully millennial at times. Made me cringe a bit. I liked the reflection on grief. I didn't really feel the romance or chemistry on this one.

So beautifully written, achingly sad and tender at points. A great portrait of a family. I do think I might have loved it even more if I had read it and not listened to the audiobook. The accent of narrator was hard for my little american brain to follow.
How to Survive a Plague: The Inside Story of How Citizens and Science Tamed AIDS by David France
5.0
So so good. Especially for the younger generation of queers. Really highlights the mishandling of the aids crisis by the government and corporations and the bravery of the activists.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

- Diverse cast of characters? No

I think it's interesting the way that the Brontës seem to engage with race (see also: Wuthering Heights). Someone smarter than me has probably written dissertations on it. I enjoyed this book. We love some toxic kings. Would i want my own Mr. Rochester? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Is it fun to read in fiction? YES.
Also, F U C K St John. Die on your stupid missionary trip, pig<3.

This book has always felt much more 'grown up' and modern than the other Austen books I have read so far. I love Anne and I understand her. Captain Wentworth too. Too bad there has not been a great movie adaptation thus far:(
