this book knocked fourth wing out of the park for me. the writing is absolutely beautiful, rebecca really delivered and definitely improved i think from the first novel! i'd say i was a lot more attached to the events of this book than the last and overall found more enjoyment, and i'd say the array of incredible quotes gave this book the rating i gave it. looking forward to the next part of the series!

i said midway through reading this that i wanted to inhale the words and grasp desperately to each syllable as if it were the last breath i ever took, but honestly, after finishing the book i now know that i want for more than that. i want to tear apart my heart and embed each word onto each and every artery. this is a masterpiece, well and truly. i have never read such a thrilling piece that has had me in ruins because good god, that writing is not even phenomenal, it is a word not even fathomed to language yet. this is a gift to the writers told that to write, you must meet tradition. fuck tradition. write with the flowers in mind, and love with your words entwined.

this book was honestly one of the funnier fantasy reads. it had the most incredible sexual tension weaved through it but also really endearing moments between the characters that made my heart swell. i found it more difficult to engage with and enjoy consistently, i took several breaks between but xaden always had me coming back!

if there is one thing that sjm can do incredibly well, it is writing mental health, it is writing the worst lows that have no apparent end and how those lows do not have to be constant. how suffering does not have to be experienced alone. that all of it begins when you come to that grave realisation that something is terribly wrong, and that there is a life we are all worthy of experiencing. that there is hope, and that hope will guide us, through whatever it is that we battle. no battles are fruitless, and nesta is the embodiment of that. whilst trauma will lay upon us open wounds, those open wounds will one day scar. and those scars that may never fade with age will only be just that - scars. this book is a symphony for those who one day thought they'd never make it. but you did. there will always be another tomorrow. the sun will always rise again. so breathe.

a nice little bridge between the absolute insanity that was acowar and the next book acosf. i'm so excited to continue into the next book, and this was a sweet break that tied together loose ends before shifting narratives. i also really liked the developments in certain characters and how those developments were so expertly written. sjm you have my respects always

this is most definitely my favourite so far from the acotar series. i laughed. i cried. well, sobbed really. this book really hit home for me with the dialogues, and the development of nesta and elain's characters was one of my favourite parts. to make once minor characters into something major and turn their unique personalities into something far more prominent is truly an art form that sarah j maas has mastered. i'm so enamoured by how sarah writes the most complex of emotions, and how her characters are in no way perfect through their dialogues and actions that even the protagonist is not immune from. i was utterly engaged from the beginning to the end, but my favourite part of it all was the extension of nesta and cassian, who had me sobbing my heart out. in conclusion, i am once again revering sarah j maas as a genius.

this book is genuinely genius. i never would have continued this book the way i did were it not that i was reading it alongside a friend as we are left in complete confusion for around 3/4s of the book, and i did talk bad on it for that time too. however, the end is perfection in how it brings absolutely Everything to light. how i feel for feyre. for rhysand. rhysand my wife. come home the foods getting cold. but seriously, the character development is absolutely unbelievable, and how we as readers become so aware of what is right and wrong that feyre cannot see. feyre my love you're an idiot please don't allow yourself to burn. you deserve so much more.
