I LOVED The Ritual, but I only enjoyed this one. Unfortunately, it got quite repetitive with Elli getting high and then Sin punishing her. The spice was intense and there was a LOT of it, which in these books I’ve now come to expect. But potentially, in my opinion, there might just have been a touch too much spice and not enough plot.

This series just got better and better, with Callum and Everly very quickly becoming my favourite couple.

Their relationship blossomed, and it was oh so perfect and absolutely filthy.

My only criticism is the ending felt rushed and that the fight with the “big bad” at the end just didn’t feel long enough, it didn’t feel like there was much at stake (although the other books clearly stressed this). But, even with this I really loved this series!

Move over Leon, and step up Zane!!

I’ve only started reading paranormal romances recently, but this series has already jumped itself up the top of the ladder as my favourite.

A very, very interesting main plot sandwiched with some seriously sexy, dark and spicy romance. I loved every page of this.

I went into this completely blind and I am SO glad I did. The twists and turns and journey this book made me take were fantastic.

Such an interesting, and well executed concept. Paranormal Romance done properly, like this was, is so enjoyable to read and I’m absolutely going to read the next 2 in the series.

Firstly, thank you so much to SM Gaither for the opportunity to read another book as an ARC.

I’ve attempted to write this review several times now, come back and forth trying to put how it made me feel into a cohesive review.

But, honestly, all I keep coming back to is that I LOVED every page. SM knows how to write phenomenal, relatable and well researched characters. The portrayal of the anxiety and OCD aspects of Karys were so accurately written, and it is honestly refreshing to see this shown in books.

Dravyn is single-handedly redeeming blonde men, and I love that for him.

Just, read this duology. It’s fantastic

I spend 80-85% of these books confused and not understanding what is going on (but thoroughly enjoying the writing, lore and characters as they’re magnificent) and then the last 15% give me whiplash.

This is probably the slowest of slow burns, and the world and plot is so complex it’s bordering on high fantasy rather than Romantasy. Phenomenally written, and I’m just looking forward to getting answers to the 1 million questions I have!

I did not expect as much spice as this provides considering it is a FairyLoot Romantasy pick (and they don’t seem to lean to spice??). But, this surprised me with how much I enjoyed it.

Granted, it takes a while for the plot to kick in, and Tullisa is a bit of a pathetic FMC. She’s exceptionally naive and easily swayed. But I’m hoping, with the events of the end of this book, her villain era is approaching.

80% spice, 20% plot.

No regrets reading, nice little pallet cleanser between some heavy fantasy!

Unfortunately, this book does not hit the mark for me. Zero structure and no hint of a plot for well over 200 pages, I *struggled* to connect with this.

I was BEGGING for an info dump. I didn’t know who these characters were, why should I care about them? What is their role or their purpose? I cannot tell you how many times I read a page and then had to reread because it didn’t make sense.

Unreliable narrators can be excellent, when portrayed in the right way. However, I expect some information to be given to the reader to help the story along. Potentially a second POV so that we can see what the FMC cannot. I was just as clueless as Aestrea was for the entirety of the 500+ pages and probably even more so by the end.

This book did NOT start off strong. It was a copy paste of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and I mean literal exact word for word phrases (um, copyright?).

However, I persevered. It takes A LOT for me to DNF, particularly short books like this one and it did get better.

Is this book groundbreaking and a literary masterpiece? Absolutely not. However, the author’s writing has potential and so does the series overall. Once it took a step away from the B&B storyline and started to branch into its own (Below Prince, Thorns obeying her etc), the book picked up for me.

Look, I’d never say this is a phenomenal bit of writing. But if you can get past the first third, it does become enjoyable enough to read and I sped through it in a few hours.

I know there are rumours of a certain book box subscription doing this soon, which is why I chose to read now. It has massive potential to be stunning. The content and the setting allows for some beautiful artwork and I’m hoping it is done well.
