it waxed and waned for me. i think i expected it to be too much like Eve Babitz and it didn’t have much of a chance from the start. sometimes it struck me, most of the time i resented it. maybe I just don’t like poetry, maybe I hate LA, maybe it’s not the right time. who knows.

I was very charmed at first, but the book dragged. The vignettes became a little tiring and too similar and by the end I was disenchanted and just wanted it to be over.

If Blair and Serena were poor and nomadic and curious. Fashionable and weird, I thought I didn’t like it at first and all of a sudden I had read 100 pages without looking up. An ode to the introspective party girl that I am in my head.

I have romanticized living a summer in NY like this but I know I do not have the mental wherewithal to function with this kind of unending instability. It is so glamorous and I would not make it. However, this book means a lot to me. Shoutout to my bestie Carla for slipping it into my bag as I left her apartment because she knew I needed it.
