Sally Rooney writes books for Phoebe Bridgers mentally ill bisexual girlies. So obvi I connected 🤪 an exploration on ‘modern-love’ but what does it mean about modern love with the best friend/ love interest is an awful friend and the love interest/ sexy older friend clearly is not meeting our protag’s needs/wants in the relationship? And then what you want to happen at the end is
for her to say fuck it to them both and realize that she deserves to have her needs met in all kinds of relationships, but instead she just gets back with them both
which is I believe supposed to be our conclusion with this book that love is complicated and messy and layered but I like our main character very much and I care about her mental health and I feel like she
settles in the end

I loved the first book in her series, but this one didn’t grab me. There were a lot of pieces to the mystery that got confusing, I didn’t really care about the characters like I did in Postmordem, and I was frustrated by the “romantic” relationship, which is really phoned in and convenient. Hopefully not indicative of the rest of the series, and these are quick enough to read that, yeah, i’m going to keep going, but eh.

This is a realllly good book. I honestly didn’t except to love it as much as I did because it’s kind of one of those mass printed books where the author has a billion copies of each book in every used book store, but… it’s good. I love that the author is actually a forensic scientist and that the book is steeped in science!!!!! I however didn’t really like the ending and I thought that the ending might happen from early on in the book and I was like I hope that doesn’t happen in the ending and it did so…
