First Grade Dropout by Audrey Vernick
4.0
This was an interesting book and completely cute and hilarious. I won't go into much detail about what exactly happened, but I can tell you that it kind of surprised me at the reason why the little kid wanted to drop out of first grade. I don't know if I would say this is a good read aloud for something like storytime; however, I think it's a great story to share with kids that are anxious about going to any grade.
Preacher, Volume 1: Gone to Texas by Garth Ennis
4.0
I really enjoyed this comic. It was different than a lot of other things I've read but for some reason it pulled me in. I was not expecting that guy at the end to be so screwed up haha and I'm so shocked at the way he handled things. I'm really interested in picking up the second book in this series. I can definitely see why it's a classic and I now know why people love both the comic and the TV show.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
5.0
This book was phenomenal in more ways than one. I knew a little bit about Henrietta Lacks, but I was definitely not aware of the extent to which her family was affected by the use of her sells in modern day biology. It broke my heart to see how her family, deeply rooted in religious beliefs, was broken because they felt as though Henrietta's soul resided in those cells. I have my own personal opinions about the entire concept of doctors taking medical waste for their own advantages. Nevertheless, what I can say about this issue is that it is stories such as the Tuskegee Experiment and the use of Henrietta's cells that have ultimately made the black community hesitant about wanting to go to doctors. I plan to do more research on this topic and it may be a project that I throw myself into. Hopefully I can find more text that really delves into the black community's experience with the medical field. This really opened my eyes to a lot of issues related to the medical field/industry and I can't wait to read more.
Gotham Academy: Second Semester, Volume 1: Welcome Back by Brenden Fletcher

Okay so this series is starting to make a lot of sense and we definitely get more insight into what's going on to Olive as a character. I thought the artwork was amazing and I must says that the plot left me wanting more. It was extremely intriguing and I really enjoyed it. I'm excited to see where the rest of the story is going to go.
The Beauty, Volume 2 by Jeremy Haun, Jason A. Hurley
3.0
This was an interesting addition to the series. It didn't pick up where volume 1 left off but actually gave the reader insight to individuals who used "the beauty" to further advance themselves prior to knowing it's affects. I was really interested in the storyline but I couldn't give it more than 3 stars because I'm not sure how it's going to tie into the rest of the volumes. It was actually pretty sad and I hope that I get to see some sort of resolution in the next volume.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Vol. 3: The Smartest There Is by
3.0
This wasn't the best installment in the series. I really got confused between actually dialogue and the thoughts that were going on in Moon Girl's head. It was too much. I did appreciate the inclusion of all the Marvel superheroes. It was fun and interesting to see them all working together. With that being said, I think that she definitely learned the value of friendship in this volume, but I'm hoping to see more in the next volume. I really enjoyed volume 2 so this was sort of a disappointment.
I Hate Fairyland (2015-2018) #9 by Jean-François Beaulieu, Skottie Young
5.0
This book was just as hilarious as the first two volumes. I can't go into detail, but I can say that Gert is just as funny as she has been and that we get introduced to a crazy plot line involving some crazy characters. The artwork was just as amazing and vibrant as before and I genuinely cannot wait to get my hands on the fourth volume. And can I just say I feel so bad for Larry haha he went through so much in this volume.
