The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver
2.0
Update! Here's my full review: http://www.bookishrealmreviews.com/2017/07/the-secrets-we-keep-by-trisha-leaver.html
I just want everyone to know that there are so many things wrong with this book. Things that could have easily been resolved but were they no. The whole thing was based around a stupid lie that had no consequences whatsoever. I don't understand how Ella got away with half the crap she did and it was because everyone felt sorry for her. The conclusion was even worse. It was the perfect happy ending and it shouldn't have been in the least bit. I don't recommend this book at all and I will be doing a full review.

The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach

This was a cute picture book. I enjoyed the artwork and the overall story. This is a good one for any children that are interested in books about bears. It's also a great read aloud.
Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate

This was definitely a heart-breaking read, but I love the fact that homelessness was incorporated into the text and that an imaginary friend was the source of comfort for the child. The writing wasn't the best writing that I've ever read, but I understand how it could be appealing for a younger audience. I read this as a part of my challenge to read as many South Carolina Book Award nominess. I can't give the chances of this one being a winner as I haven't read many of the others; however, I think it does a great job of tackling some difficult issues especially those that deal with homelessness in children.
Amina's Voice by Hena Khan

I thought this book was amazing. It was full of interesting aspects of the Muslim community and I'm so happy that the other took the time to actually write it and give readers some insight to what it's like to maintain being a part of your own culture and community and adapting to another. The characters were all diverse and I loved that. This is a children's book so it definitely reads quickly; however, it was phenomenal and the writing is great. If you have a child that you're trying to expose to more diverse reads I would definitely recommend this one.
Oddly Normal, Book 1 by Otis Frampton

This was cute!! I loved the artwork and the concept of her not being human or a witch but somewhere in between. We don't get a lot in this first volume so I'm hoping that there will be more plot and character development in the next volume.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Wow this definitely was a fantastic book. I really enjoyed it a whole lot more than I thought I would. Levi has the best book boyfriend. He was amazing and I loved the relationship he had with Kath. It was just beautiful watching that unfold. At first Kath annoyed me with her lack of desire to do anything but keep to herself, but then I realized that this was something she definitely couldn't help. After that it was much easier to read her as a character. I loved the main storyline and could have definitely done without the Simon and Baz parts. For this reason I don't know if I'll ever read Carry On. It just didn't appeal to me outside the main story. Overall it was a great book with wonderful characters and a great plot and actually left me wanting more. I'm glad I decided to give it a try.
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

Update! Here's my full review: http://www.bookishrealmreviews.com/2017/07/always-forever-lara-jean-by-jenny-han.html
Okay I'm not going to lie. At first Lara Jean really annoyed the shit out of me. I didn't understand how she seemed to be moving backwards considering the fact that she had such a strong personality and then here she is following behind Peter. I was extremely disappointed and annoyed at the possibility that she would change her entire life for Peter but then I realized I was that age at some point too and I have made decisions that were revolved around someone else and although they weren't good I've learned from them and I'm ultimately glad that Lara made the best decisions for her in the end. Some of my favorite parts of this book definitely revolved around the pop culture elements. I loved them. Especially the reference to Sixteen Candles which is one of my favorite 80s movies. I also thought that the relationship between Margot and Tree was interesting. I can see why she would be so upset that her family dynamic was changing without her. But I don't know if I expected that reaction from her. Overall, I thought it was a good conclusion to the trilogy. I have all my notes written down so I will be doing a full review on this one as soon as a I can.

Copper Sun by Sharon M. Draper

I devoured this book!! It was so good. I would warn that this book is graphic and doesn't hold back from describing the horrors of slavery. I couldn't help but love the characters and admire their strength. It'd amazing to know that there are children who went through this same thing and survived. There's a lot to learn from this novel and I can't wait to do a full review.
Z Is for Moose by Kelly Bingham
4.0
This book was hilarious. I definitely recommend this as a new book for kids that are learning the alphabet and love animals. It's all about a moose who wants to be a part of the alphabet, but he keeps getting looked over and joining in on the wrong parts. I just picked it up on a whim and I'm glad I did. The artwork was great and I think I'll be checking to see if the author has any more works.
My Friend Rabbit: A Picture Book by Eric Rohmann

This was a cute picture book. I think that the humor of the rabbit is what kept it going. He was amazing! I think that this would also potentially serve as a great read a loud for kids!
