I love love loved this series so much. I loved every single character. Every single scenario and plot point. It was perfect. And amazing. And I cannot wait to read everything else by this author. I am officially a true scifi convert and I now need to read everything I can get my hands on.

I really enjoyed this one. I was so excited to get to the new village. I can’t wait to see what life will be like there. And I loved how this one was a reconnecting story rather than new love- it broke up the routine a bit.

I feel like I can’t properly judge this one because I do not like sports. I do not like sports talk. I did not understand half of what they were saying because I do not understand (or want to understand) baseball other than the extreme basics. If I ignore the baseball aspect, I absolutely loved the ending. That was great. 5 stars for that. But sadly I’m only going to give it 3 because baseball sucks.

And for those wondering why the heck I read a baseball book if I hate baseball and sports so much… I’ve got a goal of reading every Stephen King book so I sort of had to… and this month’s BookishFirst Book Bingo had a square for “includes baseball” and I really needed that to get bingo. So here we are. I’m glad I read it. But I’m not going to read it again.

Just what I want and expect from a Melanie Harlow book. A happy little romance with small town charm. But this time with some pop star thrown in to mix it up.

I guess we are never getting back to the original crew? Unless the last book connects everyone together? Either way, I’m still loving this series. I once again fell in love with all the different characters. This time the highlight was definitely the world building. I loved learning about the Fleet and how it came to be. I want a prequel book that covers the humans preparing to leave earth and creating the fleet. I think that would be amazing.

I loved this book! I was a bit surprised that we didn’t see any of the crew from the previous book but I loved it all the same! I loved learning more about Jane/Pepper and Lovelace/Sidra. I loved following them through their respective journeys of finding oneself etc.

I normally do not comment on the “writing” beyond whether I liked it or not, but this was probably the best example of character development that I have read recently. And the world building of this series is just phenomenal. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

2.25

I don’t know if I should give it 3 or 2 stars… I’m doing to go with 2.25 because the more I think about the ending the more pissed off I get. I really wanted to like this book. So many people liked this book. And the concept behind it was wonderful… at first. But I had some issues…

The smaller of my two issues was that the “hacking” felt strange. It didn’t make much sense. It was a strange combination of computer work and physical action- physical action which was I guess technically controlled mentally? Maybe I just wasn’t full understanding how the technology was supposed to work but it all just felt strange to me.

More importantly, the “villainous super crime” being committed isn’t villainous at all. I am 100% on
Hideo’s
side.
Maybe if he changes to controlling other types of behavior and actions and whatnot, but simply stopping crime and violence before it happens? How is that wrong?? You say you are taking away people’s freedoms. But you could argue the same thing about putting people in jail after they commit the crime. Isn’t it better to stop murder, rape, and theft before it happens? Think of all the rape and murder victims. Where is their freedom of choice when they are being raped and murdered against their will?? As long as this type of behavior control remains where it is only stopping major criminal behavior, I 100% am in support of it. You could stop drunk drivers too. Think of all the lives that would be saved. And the only people who would have their freedom impacted are the people who want to commit serious crimes (rape, murder, etc). And they shouldn’t have freedom anyways. What the fuck is wrong with people for thinking this is a bad thing.

This book took me so long not because it was bad, but because we were in the process of moving and then I kept having to return it to the library. But FINALLY. Finally I got it and was able to sit down and pick it back up and I finished that last part in a single sitting. I really love this author.

I wanted to love this book so much… but it was awful. Absolutely awful. I don’t even mean the dark romance aspect. That would have been fine if it was at least written well. Everything about it was awful. It took me 3 months to fight my way through it.
