Bram Stoker's Dracula Starring Bela Lugosi by Bram Stoker, Robert Place Napton
i haven't read this since high school, i think. so far enjoying it. parts of it are actually quite creepy. also interesting that it references the SPCA, which i hadn't realized was that old!
Commodore: A Company on the Edge by Brian Bagnall
4.0
i read the earlier version of this book. this is the new, expanded edition. i can't get enough of computer nostalgia.
can't wait for the next book (the amiga years)!

The Adventures of Tintin, Volume 3: The Crab With the Golden Claws / The Shooting Star / The Secret of the Unicorn by Hergé
i still love the clean art & the straight-ahead adventure stories in tintin books. things i don't like: almost complete lack of female characters, and problematic portrayals of alcoholism and non-white races. a question to others: how much of a pass do you give a work like this that was written in a different era? i suppose it might depend on the context... even though i enjoyed these when i was young, and enjoyed re-reading these as an adult, i don't know if i'd feel comfortable recommending this for a child today.
V for Vendetta by Alan Moore
4.0
[this is not much of a review, but i felt like writing about reading this...]
i bought the first five issues of v for vendetta when dc published them in 1988, but at that time, i had trouble getting into it. perhaps it was because i was reading it one issue at a time as they came out.
years pass, and i did see the 2006 movie, but i barely remember a thing about it (i tend to forget things alarmingly easily), so i don't think the movie viewing affected my experience of reading this much (for example, i remembered that there was a train with explosives at the end, but not that v was dead and on the train, heh). i mostly remember flying knives, and natalie portman's shaved head...
anyway! this past christmas, while visiting my parents, i noticed that the 5 issues i bought were still on a bookshelf. i took them home and started reading this weekend. i was completely hooked, and when i got through 5 i had to get the whole book so i could finish it.
overall i quite enjoyed it, but i felt the ending was a bit lacking for some reason.
now i want to rewatch the movie.
