My boys and I really enjoyed this modern day story based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. We look forward to the next book and are very inspired to read the original Verne book.

As someone who did not attend an HBCU, I really enjoyed learning about the culture of these institutions. The selection of stories brought a nice collection of perspectives. I would have loved to learn more about other schools such as Tuskegee University, Kentucky State, Central State University, Wilberforce University and others.

I wanted to like this more…as I did enjoy much of it in bits and pieces but overall it didn’t come together for me. There were so many characters to keep track of that I’m not completely sure I followed the storyline fully. I’m also not a fan of huge cliffhanger endings. Honestly not sure if I’ll read the next book in this series.

This book took me by surprise. Just when I thought I had Molly figured out she flipped the script. I love the small circle of people that formed around her. Great depiction of how service workers are treated and seen (or not).

Modern retelling of Little Women. Well rounded yet complex characters that were all likable and simultaneously frustrating. The ending was wrought with tears and hope.

Loved that this is centered in Pinoy culture. Saso was our favorite character.
