Fox writes a compelling story. But there’s a lot of cultural appropriation coming on.

My mother recommended this one to me. She thinks we have similar taste in books.
Reader, my mother and I do not have similar taste in books.
Not every book is for every reader. And that’s okay.
This book would suit someone who enjoys a bit of melodrama and who doesn’t have trouble suspending disbelief.

Romance stresses me out. Main characters who are wilfully stupid stress me out. This book is not for me.

So much fun, but also deeply layered. I think I’ll need to read this one a few times.

This story is told from two perspectives: a woman whose thoughts are very disordered and a man experiencing from memory lapses.
Utterly compelling, but sometimes difficult to follow. As outstanding as Imogen Church is as a narrator, I think this might have been easier to follow if Grace and Dan’s chapters had been narrated by different people.

A polemic against unfettered capitalism ensconced within a cosy warm hug.
On the surface, this is a story with all the wit and charm of Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree or The Midnight Library by Matt Haig … but wrapped around an exposé on the lies of the Protestant work ethic.
