Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
Despite having read this twice, I still don’t know what to think…
I think that ultimately, Charles gets taken in by the creamy English charm of the Flyte family and when he no longer has the family he doesn’t have much else. Do I believe his conversion to Catholicism? No, not really. Overall, I don’t think that Waugh sells Catholicism in a believable way at all in this book. As I mentioned to others in my book club, I think that the movie Dogma did a better job of selling Catholicism than Brideshead Revisited.
I’m really glad that I read this and I’m so thankful that I read it as part of a book club, because I really benefited from all of the fantastic discussions we had.

The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
4.0
Jeez, what this poor woman went through…
I’ve never really been a Britney Spears fan; at the time that she was really popular it wasn’t the type of music that I listened to, and it’s still not really. There are a few of her songs that I like, but I’ve never really followed her or her career. Until more recently, when she was being criticized for her Instagram posts and then with the #FreeBritney movement. I’m so glad that she was finally able to get out of her incredibly abusive conservatorship, which she never should have been under.
This book was really eye-opening to just how badly she was manipulated and abused by her family and those that are close to her.
