I kept thinking this book couldn’t possibly twist my heart again, and then it would in a completely new way. To say this book is sad is reductive- it is an elegy to loss, grief, but also hope.
The empathy and care Nagamatsu puts into every word is stunning. Feeling somewhere between Station Eleven and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, this book is equally devastating, inspiring, and beautiful.

I feel haunted by this book days after I finished it. Mary Garrett and her many alternate selves fill this book with the ghosts of what might have been while dealing with the horrors of what is. Somewhat a mix of science fiction and true crime, this is a powerful narrative about loss and the social issues of missing women in the US.

This is a wonderful, eerie collection of short stories. Wyss' unsettling imagery and compelling protagonist make this a difficult to set down. Perfect reading for a dark, rainy day or long, winding road trip.
