A cute, quick read about a couple falling in love. Pretty standard tropes and no surprises, but it was sweet.

What did I just read? Now, your girl doesn't mind some bondage, kink and dubious consent. But not going to lie, this book was way too rapey for me. It didn't give me as much skeeve as Anne Rice's nonsense but I got to the point where I was just ready for the book to end. I finished it because I was over halfway and I wanted to find out who killed the grandma.
I found nothing hot or redeeming about Zade. A lot of rape, stalking and for some reason humming? I've encountered several examples of MMCs humming in recent romance novels I've read. I found it really confusing at first until I realized what the authors are trying to express. I think. Anyway, that's a whole different rant and Zade is the hummiest hummer of any romance novel I've read. I think I would even prefer him to growl over this weird humming. Honestly, now I'm imagining him humming songs from Phantom of the Opera and am really sad I didn't think of that sooner. Would've made the book more enjoyable.

You are killing me, Brandon Sanderson. I hated this book. I wasn't a fan of any of the Mistborn books up to this point. But this one. I would never have read it if it weren't for my husband. That's how much I love him.
I didn't find the characters particularly endearing or interesting. They felt whiny for the most part and did stupid things. I didn't care what happened to them.
Brandon Sanderson can write climactic scenes though. Despite my uncaring attitude towards the characters. I will still upset during chapter 82, found myself tearing up at the epilogue, and intrigued to read the second round of Mistborn novels. Darn you, Sanderson!

The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine by Lindsey Fitzharris

A fascinating look into the life of Joseph Lister, the history of hospitals and surgery and the accentance of germ theory.

As interesting as the story sounded, I actually didn't find it all that compelling. It was unpleasantly preachy for pages at a time and when it finally got to the crime part, it wasn't believable. Wasn't a fan

Though the premise of this book was interesting it was not executed well. I didn't find the characters interesting or compelling and the confrontation with the outlaws was rather anticlimactic.
