Ready or Not by Cara Bastone

Everybody needs a Shep in their lives. I was very emotionally invested almost right from the start, but I do feel like the book had a stronger beginning than end. Not to say that I did not like the ending, I love how it all turned out and how Eve, Shep, and Ethan managed to make their unusual arrangement work. I found Ethan's reactions very realistic, as well as Willa's sad/happy responses to Eve's pregnancy.

There was so much sadness, desperation, determination, hope, and love packed into the pages of this book. We have two poignant love stories that happen decades apart, not to mention the incredibly close bond between Scarlet and her sister. While I adored Scarlet and Jamieson's story, I would've liked to see more of Noah and Georgia. But I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of Scarlet and Constance's job. The ending blew me away. I cried big tears from about halfway and the words were somewhat blurry by the end.

The one in which Chloe gets Pretty Womaned to within an inch of her life by a sexy, driven man who has wanted her for a very long time.
Jason and Chloe got married for convenience, while their feelings for each other were very real, unbeknownst to the other. I loved that and also that Jason was all in right from the start. Chloe’s hesitancy about marriage and babies wasn’t all that clear to me, but she quickly recognized and admitted her own feelings about Jason.
Watching them support each other and slowly fall in love was fantastic. And having the rest of the Brewer family there was just the cherry on top.
I can recommend this if you like a sweet, steady, steamy romance (with no third act breakup) that will melt your heart.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a new-to-me fantasy world that I found very intriguing.
Zoë’s making came out of nowhere, and it was terrifying. It was a thrilling beginning, but then it took a long time before the reader and Zoë were introduced to the intricacies of the world of Mages. At the end of it, I’m still not entirely sure about how it all works, and I hope the following books will make things clearer. Her time of captivity with her Creator was truly horrific and a testament to Zoë’s inner strength that she made it out with the will to carry on.
Adam was amazing. He helped Zoë without expecting anything in return, even when neither one of them had any clue as to what had happened to her. He took her in and gave her a safe space and even after she went off with Justus, he was still a safe space for her. It was difficult to like Justus initially. I was a bit confused as to where he and Simon fitted in in the whole scheme of things. Zoë wasn’t too eager to ask for or accept help, and she never stopped fighting for herself. And Simon was just the right kind of distraction for Zoë as a break from all the seriousness around her.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this story, even though some parts moved a bit slowly. I can recommend this if you like Mages, magic, and political maneuvering. This first book is not a romance and I don’t know what to expect from the following books, but I am excited to find out.

Just when I think I can’t love Nick and Riley more, they do this. And by “this” I mean this entire happy, hilarious, cheeky book.
The banter and witty writing have reached new heights of awesomeness. I went back and read some parts twice, just because I enjoyed them so much. This is a series I can see myself reading again and again, just for the entertainment factor.
Nick was especially charming and I loved how much he loved Riley. The whole cast of characters brought their own A game and filled every scene with so much colour and joie-de-vivre.
If you enjoy over-the-top situations, exaggerated characters and action, and an epic romance, then this is definitely the series for you. It’s best to read them in order, as Nick and Riley’s life together grows.

As I read this, I went through various stages of confusion, wondering if I was maybe missing some crucial information. Then something would click and slowly and every carefully everything is revealed with Charlotte's characteristic nonchalance. I absolutely love Charlotte and Ash together and he is still one of my favourites.

Life with Nick and Riley is never dull, and I thoroughly enjoyed this wildly entertaining ride.
As with the first two books, we are thrown into the action straight away, and then taken back to where it all began. Nick and his dimples are as charming as ever, but this time around he is obsessed with finding Beth and drops the ball in some other important areas. Riley and the rest of his team try to pick up the slack and Mrs. Penny gets them involved in some very strange cases indeed.
You might think the author has reached the pinnacle of over-the-top characters, until Sesame walks in and blows all of them out of the water. With her comes all kinds of trouble, leading to further mischief that had me laughing out loud. Nick and Riley are made for each other, and their relationship gets cemented more firmly.
If you like crime solving shenanigans with your steamy romance, then I can highly recommend this series. I personally think it’s best to read them in order, but it’s not strictly necessary.

I loved Marduk, his history, and his connection to Raphael and Elena. It was good seeing the Cadre work together for a change and to have hope for a time of peace. This book did feel like an ending with plenty of things getting resolved and wrapped up nicely. This is an amazing series, filled with love, hope, and courage. It is definitely best to read the books in order. Don't start with this one.
Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong

A comedy of errors and an endearing romance made this a thoroughly entertaining read.
Daphne’s reasons for submitting her book as Zane Remmington made complete sense, but the whole situation got very complicated very fast. Chris was funny and self-deprecating, even when he pretended to be an arrogant author. He made some major mistakes in his quest to help Daphne, but he had the best of intentions and got it right in the end. Daphne had to compromise so much, the poor woman, and she was stuck on this runaway train of her own making. But her determination to see it through and her willingness to forgive carried her through it all.
These two found themselves in quite a few hilarious and somewhat ridiculous pickles. I enjoyed the chemistry between them and their growing affection for each other. The interviews and other public appearances made for some very amusing reading. And everything worked out just perfectly.
The story is told from both Chris and Daphne’s perspectives in the third person. I can highly recommend this if you enjoy a steamy romcom.

The Five Year Lie by Sarina Bowen
4.0
The belated text message that Ariel should've received five years ago started us off on a twisty path of abuse of power and betrayal. The dual time lines put different pieces of information together that painted the whole picture slowly and methodically. And as these two time lines came closer to revealing everything, the pace and general feel of the story also became more frantic. I was more invested in solving the mystery than the romance between Drew and Ariel. Although, their separation, interspersed with Drew's account from the past, was very emotional and heart-breaking. The reveal of the true culprit was done very well. I made some good guesses, but not about everything, and even though I had an inkling of the truth, it was still shocking and impactful. I really enjoyed Sarina Bowen's first attempt at a thriller and can recommend it if you like romantic suspense.
