I admit I struggled  connecting with either Finch or Violet. I will not speak about the accuracy of the portrayal of bipolar disorder since I don't have that illness but I have not particularly liked or care for the characters. Not the way I should have. Maybe I'm simply outgrowing YA. Maybe Jennifer Niven's writing just isn't my vibe.

This was one of the two books I've gathered but still haven't read in my home and so i decided to finally power through it. And really the book is about nothing. It's so pointless. A girl struggling to find a job and life's purpose and by the end she i guess sort of realises there's no purpose to be found. And in the meantime she's mean to everyone around her and drinks so much alcohol that i really thought hwr gping to rehqb might become a plotpoint at some point. The blurbs at the beginning compared the book to bridget jones but bridget is at least funny. And does have a point by the end of the book. I was really atruggling to like this main character anf couldn't understand why her boyfriend still stayed with her. This really was a book not worth my time. At least it was kinda short.

Oh god this is the book that really delves into the tragedy of it all, doesn't it huh? I cried several times. What do you mean Jiang Yanli came to Wei Wuxian to ask him to name her child. And it was Jiang Chang's idea? AND I'M SUPPOSE TO BE OKAY AFTER READING THAT?
Also poor WWX falling for Lan Zhan thinking he doesn't stand a chance meanwhile Lan Zhan had lewd thoughts about WWX pretty much since the moment he met him when they were like 16.
It's really impressive how MXTX is managing switching between these three timelines. And I'm happy for it because if I'd have to read the entire demonic path and slow descent to madness of WWX without having these moments of ease from the present? Or these heavy moments from the present not have interrupted by some light scenes from the past? Like it would be emotionally so much harder to read. But doing it like this is doable.
Anyway one last book to go.

I managed to get through this book so much quicker. Probably because it has some of my favourite parts. We get to know more of Wei Wuxian pre-resurection and what has lead him on such a different path, get to see more of the relationship between Wei Wuxian and his brother Jiang Cheng and we finally get to meet their sister Jiang Yanli. But we also are starting to get to some of the truly tragic parts of the storyline
(though I was surprised to see that actually the real tragedy with the Golden Core that happened was skipped over and will only be revealed much later I guess)
. The romance is amping up now too. Lan Wangji is truly a romantic hero and it's fun to see Wei Wuxian fawning over him so much. And how even Lan Xichen knows what's up.
The part with child Wei Wuxian when he first settles at Lotus Pier literally made me cry. I half forgotten about it but also just I imagine this poor little kid scared to do anything wrong and scared of dogs and someone finally showing him some kindness and love. You know I really hope Lan Wangji will show him a lot of kindness and love because god knows Wei Wuxian has suffered enough in his life and did not get enough of love and kindness in his first life time.
Like he literally dreams of bulding a cottage house somewhere with Lan Wangji where they'd just work the field and relax so let him do that

Even though or maybe because I know the story this book was hard for me to go through. It was causing me anxiety because I knew what will happen. Especially those two flashback scenes with A-Qing and the with Nie Mingjue.
But I am also loving all the dynamics. Love that we got to spend time with the kids. Lan Sizhui continues to be best boi and i love him so much.
I actually love Jin Ling as a character because you see him struggle so much. He's this spoiled kid because his parents died and then his uncle is mean to him and he fears his uncle. But then he also wants to prove himself and grow into his own and he meets his uncle who he kinda connects with but then he finds out he is actually the other uncle who he swore to hate.
Xue Yang is absolutely terrible and I hate him so much. He might be the most evil character out of them all. I hate him with a passion.
I love the clear deep relationship between the Twin Jades of Gusu and how much they trust each other and support and love each other. Lan Xichen is a bit naive in regards to Jin Guangyao but then everyone is since Jin Guangyao is so good at manipulating people. Love that Lan Xichen clearly knows Lan Wangji has it bad for Wei Wuxian and he probably knows the guy who goes around as Mo Xuanyu is actually Wei wuxian because there's only one man his brother would do this all for.
I am excited to get to see more of Wen Ning because he's also my favourite.
And lastly I love how much Wei Wuxian is falling for Lan Wangji without even noticing. Am excited to read the third book where we get to dive more into their past.

I intend to tackle all the volumes during my two weeks vacation.

I love how much the vibes of the characters feel similar to the vibes of the characters in the show. Like I retrospectively appreciate the casting and how each actor just perfectly suits their character.
Reading this is a delight. I cannot imagine reading this without knowing the story though. It would simply be way too confusing I think. MXTX's writing in this story makes it so that wwx constantly mentions things that have happened but he doesn't explain them and so the reader has to wait and hope at some point those things will start to make sense. Like if I read this without the context of the show I think I'd be too frustrated with it and just wouldn't continue. But reading this while knowing and remembering enough makes it much more enjoyable. I don't remember every detail so it really feels like I'm rediscovering a story but without getting hung up on details that differ.

Okay i went into this not remembering anything from school about it. I just knew Čapek is one of the best if not the best author in my country and yet I've only ever read one theatre play from him. I also knew he was a big humanist.
So when the book started with a racist captain i was a bit confused. Is this the big a brilliant author who's considered to be such a humanist? That is of course until i realised the entire book is a satire of human race and all it's lowest instincts. And then i truly saw the absolute briliance of it all.
Čapek died on the cusp of the Nazi occupation of my country. He never experienced wwii. But he knew where this all leads. And in a way he saw the future. Because he saw that humans are truly unteachable and continue to make the same mistakes. In this book he managed to tackle colonialism, racism, labor exploitation, capitalism, sexism, religious fanatism and something we in czechia call "čecháčství". And he did ot in 1935.
I have to say i went into this with no expectations and i was blown away by the end.
Even the last chapter where the author suddenly talks to himself about the inevitability of it all just pefectly captures everything the author wanted to say about human race.

This was fun. We don't talk about how witty Jane Austen was enough. I loved how much she was making fun of the gothic genre. Also loved Henry's teasing nature.
Admittedly I was struggling with the language a bit. Not because I couldn't understand the individual words but the style of the prose was at times hard to understand. Sentences that run for so long and were so convoluted you forgot how it started and even after three tries you still didn't understand what they said. I will still try to read all Austen in original even if it is a bit hard to understand at times.
