Gawd damn. The tension. The sex. The bdsm. The angsty men. The touch of mysticism. I must know more. I need the back stories of these characters. And holy flip I’m horny as h e l l
Spicy and fun. Interesting concept of the gods being modern humans and that their names are just their political positions and roles they have been elected or born into. Somethings weren’t explained quite enough. I kept wondering if this was a fantasy or not but I felt I was able to suspend my disbelief to just enjoy myself.
This book blew me away. I was hooked throughout the entire time I read it. The story was intense and heartbreaking and the romance made me squeal like I was in middle school. Generally, I’m lover of smut but even though there was nothing explicit in this book, I was enthralled by the romance and tension between the two main characters. Emotions were so palpable. Made me want to be loved in such an overwhelming and powerful way. I also loved the theme of fantasy set in WWI era world. That combination was such a treat. I highly recommend this book. It’s going to be included as one of my favorites this year.
No one should be comparing this to Sadie. This book falls very far below that in my opinion. It’s more girl drama than it is anything mystery or thriller. And there are so many questions I still have. It feels very unrealistic I would say. The whole situation, the fast relationships and fixation on people. All of these girls internal thoughts about eachother made this book drag for me. I wanted more actual action and intrigue rather than ‘does she or does she not like me’ thoughts. It was too long for the amount of actual content this book had.
Very interesting “what if” sort of story. The idea of everyone being able to look inside boxes to know their lifespans is very interesting concept. It’s really broken down into every single little minute detail of how that would affect daily life in society, politically, interpersonally and even emotionally. The only thing that left me wanting was, because of the amount of characters and situations there are to be explored, it was very difficult for me to emotionally connect with any one character. Also, a lot of the important most heartbreaking moments were glossed over or summarized after the fact. I wish we could have felt what it’s like to be in their shoes more. Otherwise, a really good read.
Less fun than the other books in the series. It’s hard to explain why but it felt more political heavy than romantic. There was romance but there was very little tension between them. It was almost too easy. Also, it’s pretty obvious Maurine has an eating disorder due to her PTSD but it doesn’t go much into the emotional aspect of it. They just make sure she eats without really going deep into why she wasn’t. The threat of Maurine’s half brother was more talk than seeing the action of their brutality. I don’t know. I guess I wanted more action than talk.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This book is fantastic . It’s a bit slow in the beginning as the MC is figuring out life alone but as she ages and has some interaction with other people it becomes really interesting. The things that Kya learns about life on the marsh and the people of the town is very fascinating. That being said, I’m lowering my score from a 5 to a 3 because of the shady vigilante stuff the author and her husband has gotten up to in Zambia. Someone has lost their life and they will not return for trial.
This audio book reader drove me up the wall. Every sentence, even in mundane moments, is over emphasized and so dramatic it feels silly. I couldn’t take the story seriously. Also, there’s no go to this story, it kind of dumps you into the middle of it and expects you to care
