The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

I struggled with this one. I felt the story was very slow and I understand that it's the first in a trilogy and the author had to do some world building, but even so I felt there were details that were left unexplained, details that needed explaining.

I'm having a problem understanding why this is considered a children's book. I can't imagine a child fully understanding all the political banter that takes place in the first section of the book. Also there are things like Daemons that aren't fully explained until the end of the book. I was even confused as to exactly what they were until it was explained.

Towards the end of the story things did start to pick up and I did start enjoying it more, but I'm not sure if I enjoyed it enough to pick up the next book in the trilogy.

My sister gave this to me for christmas and I'm so glad she did, because I loved it! A simple but powerful story about overcoming your fears. I think that I will always love and appreciate Lemony Snicket's work and I'm happy that I got the chance to read this little book.

Wow! This was amazing. I wasn't going into it expecting much, but coming out of it I feel inspired and motivated. This speech really made me think about my life and what I'm doing with it. I'll definitely be returning to this book when I'm needing something to lift me up!

While this has a few helpful tips on figuring out if you really have it in you to write a book, I feel that it was more of an advertisement for a certain website that they were promoting throughout the book.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were very interesting and the story was nicely paced. The only problems I had was the world building and the character development. I had a hard time grasping the world and I felt like I was kind of thrown into it and expected to figure out everything on my own. I also think that it was hard to really care for any of the characters, because I didn't feel like I got to know them well enough in the beginning. Either way this book was really fun and I'm glad that I got the chance to read it! Definitely check it out if you get the chance. :)

This book was HILARIOUS, but also deep at times which I really appreciated. It was a nice balance.

This book was a huge step up from Shatter Me! Tahereh impressed me big time. I think what makes these books so enjoyable are the characters. Each are interesting and have so much depth. After about 100 pages I found this book sososo hard to put down. I'm interested to see how Ignite Me ties things up!
