“The world isn’t ideal. This world, our world, with houses as crooked as the people in them. Broken people, broken by the way the world works.”

Ahm... it's a no. I love "friends to lovers" trope, so I'm disappointed with this one. The main character, Bree, screams "pick me" girl and I cannot stand her. Her possessiveness towards Nathan is so ?? all the jealousy and the "I'm better than any girl in his life"... just shut up. It's 2022, there's no patience left for "I'm not like other girls".

Also Nathan started cute but then... just cringe. I'm not a fan of cheesy romance, so maybe I'm the problem.

These 2 stars are only given because of his friends - their parts were really funny and I would enjoy way more a book about them than about this cheesy couple.

“‘It may seem that life is difficult at times but it’s really as simple as breathing in and out,’ she read. ‘Rip open hearts with your fury and tear down egos with your modesty. Be the person you wish you could be, not the person you feel you are doomed to be. Let yourself run away with your feelings. You were made so that someone could love you. Let them love you.’”

“On long, lonely nights when your fears crawl over your brain like cockroaches and you can't get to sleep, dream of the time vou were loved - in another lifetime, one of toil and blood. Remember how it felt to find shelter in someone's arms. Hope that you'll find it again.”

Funny, sad, hopeless, also filled with hope.

“Maybe friendship is being the guardian of another person's hope. Leave it with me and I'll look after it for a while, if it feels too heavy for now.”

“Gunnen: Noun, Dutch: To find happiness in someone else’s success because that’s how much you love them.”
