valente can really tell a tale. i'll be back in like 45 minutes idk what i thought was gonna happen but it certainly was not this. i dont mean tht in a bad way tho im just. feeling frazzled

usually id be upset but im not bc it was unsatisfying from the jump! thank god i didn't start caring abt the characters cuz imagine how mad i would be if i did. tht little bit where julie was basically speaking in tongues was my favorite tho! if the rest of the book made sense... tht part would've devastated me (i think). anyways another day, another bad 'the house is destroying us' story.

ok i know i said i wanted to start this year off with a bang but my fucking god this first volume was a wild ride and the worst part is this isnt even the craziest shit tht has happened yet like omfg

mostly wrong but inklings of truth here and there. lots of convoluted and self contradictory language and also the linguistics theory he tried to get into was undecipherable to me. theres lots of material to write a book report on it tho which is wht i read it for <3

this is the first time in a very long time tht ive read a book in one sitting and truthfully i dont even know wht to say except the jeff vandermeer won. he really really won.

suing helene wecker for emotional damages this book was so lovely and also soooo stressful towards the last...40% my heart nearly gave out as i got towards the end. all in all amazing and i only took a star off for the atrocious whirlwind romance btween sophia and ahmad right at the very start. gonna reread in the coming years to study it bc her writing style is something i really really enjoyed and hope my own work will read in a similar way
