This series is slowly killing me on the inside. I'll try again if I come down to the wire on my reading challenges.

As sweet as candy corn and twice as corny. A peppy Halloween read for sure -- but the thrilling bits feel rushed to fit in the romantic ones.

For anyone who is familiar with the New Age scene, this book is predictable. I didn't hate it and I didn't love it — it was just okay. There were some things that felt wildly inconsistent and it was slow in parts I knew were meant to be fast (the conclusion, for example). I'd still recommend this book to most; it just isn't my favorite.

Maybe reading about one desperate mother's search for a child wouldn't be so painful if I wasn't experiencing my own trauma at home.

I would call this a slow burn except that it isn't. It's just difficult to invest in the characters enough to make it through quickly. And then the library called. I look forward to taking it out again and finishing it properly! (Maybe I'll have to buy the e-book...)

Trying too hard to mimic, it lacked the subtle hypnotism of CIRCE. The themes were too pointed, spears thrusting into the message until it lacked any shape or form at all. A disappointment.
