Sad story: I listened to this book on CD while driving to work, and when I finished it I thought to myself "That was a really good book". I tried to explain why I liked it one day and I could not put into words/or remember why I liked it. All I have to go on is that I did like it, but couldn't tell anyone why. It was good though, I kind of promise.

First things first: If you saw the movie and think "I saw the movie why read the book?" then think again. Like most things the movie is nothing like the book, and in this case most of the major storyline was entirely reconstructed (by Michael Cunningham) much to the dismay of Susan Minot. I saw the movie and adored it and reading the book was equally enjoyable and heartwrenching.

I think Evening is my version of a romance novel. The story line is based round Ann who lies in her bed dying of cancer, she's remembering her life while drifting in and out of consciousness. The point of the book for me is the idea that we will all look back at our lives (hopefully not just at the end) and we'll all have regrets, and whatifs, and 'why god why's, and that is all a part of life.

It was a great book, kind of cliche at parts, tons of stream of consciousness moments, but really done and for a purpose. The beauty of the book is not in the love story, it is in Ann's life and the realizations she makes about her life lived while standing at the end of it.

I loved this book! I didn't read the English Patient (I saw the movie if that counts).

I didn't think I would get into the book as much as I did. A farm. the 1970s. Not so much all about me. The characters were beautifully written and totally engaging. I fell in love with the story and I loved every minute and every word. It was amazing!

This book was totally depressing, but it won me over. It's about a girl whose live in boyfriend dies. It's about getting over death, about getting on with life, and about dealing with regret. It's a little self involved at first, but it was good. I wouldn't expect anyone to be rolled over by the relatability of the main character, but if you let Jody tell her story through all of the sad and dark moments you might like it. I did.

This is a snippy story about a girl and a boy. In parts it is really funny (like on the first page when said girl compares herself to sylvia plath), and other parts it is a bit self-involved. I listened to it while I worked, and it made my work day much more enjoyable.

I loved this book. I feel like I fell into the world, much like Alice fell into wonderland. Can't wait to finish the others.
