This was a cute, spicy-read. It was okay. I think the only unbelievable thing in this book is how a 5-star sous chef doesn't know how to make pancakes??? but overall, it was an alright romance.
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
Gods. I survived it.
The major problem that I have with this book is how unnecessarily long it was. It almost took me two weeks to finish this. It only really picked up in Part Two. Nothing much really happened in the first half, so I feel like the author could have chunked off a good quarter and it will be alright.
Also, what's frustrating was the never-ending argument between Violet and Xaden. Violet gets it... but she just has to be dramatic first like every other girlfriend there is, but baby girl WE ARE ON A FKING WAR. What can't you understand??? I can't count the number of times they talked about it, but also not? And then after a few days, they argue about the same thing again. I truly commend Xaden throughout this book just for being patient with Violet because if it was me, I probably would just bang my head against the wall until I forget what the argument was about. It also really showed how it's more Xaden who has a better grip on the relationship. Violet feels like a self-centred bitch sometimes especially so when it comes to Xaden. And what's funny is how bad their communication is given that they're literally bonded. But I don't hate them, I still like them together... they have their moments. Sometimes, I just feel like Xaden deserves more understanding also given his background.
AND gods, the last 6 chapters were literally the best but also the most stressful chapters ever???? I kept pausing while reading because I was so scared and was actually closed to tears thinking that one of them will die and I'm still not over Liam! So I don't think I can handle anymore death from the fourth wing squad and I'm glad they were safe (so far). Also frustrated at how we got Jack fking Barlow back but not my baby boy Liam!!!! Rebecca when I catch you!
I think also one of my issues was that alot of things were confusing. Like how the wards work, what the fuck was imbuing, why draining General Sorengail and her dragon's life enough to put up a ward to think that we've been trying to figure that out throughout this fking book??... so don't they need the 7 dragons anymore??? The runes??? How the fuck Xaden became venin?? Why was Violet so ready to drain her life for that stone to save everyone when we all know three more lives are tethered to her??? I feel like sometimes she forgets that or the author does?? Man... So much plot was opened in this and it only created more questions, no answers. I hope the next book atleast gives us more clarity.
Overall, I still enjoyed the sequel. It wasn't as bad as everyone was saying. Violet was still a good fmc, I appreciate her doing all the work in this one. Xaden stays as the best book boyfriend and very devoted to her woman. Dain was bearable, kinda forgave him. The side characters, Rhi, Ridoc and Sawyer, I loved how these friendships grew. Jesinia, Sloane and Aaric are growing on me, even Cat. Sad that Garrick and Bodhi were abit forgotten. I wish to know more about Brennan and also Sgaeyl. I love Imogen too, wish we had more of her! Also, I absolutely love Tairn and Andarna! They're hilarious. I wish we also got more than Violet's POVs, atleast on the next books because I also realised that we're so limited at how much Violet knows and who she talks to, I would also like to get to know more people. I wish for Xaden chapters if I'm being honest 😭 especially now in his circumstance....
Can't wait for the next book, please be worth it!

“I love you,” I whisper. “You could throw my entire world into upheaval, and I would still love you. You could keep secrets, run a revolution, frustrate the shit out of me, probably ruin me, and I would still love you. I can’t make it stop. I don’t want to. You’re my gravity. Nothing in my world works without you.”

I guess it was an okay read. Both characters are frustrating and the miscommunication is so bad. Also abit cheesy. But if you just need a quick palate cleanser, this is alright.
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

Lesson #1: Do not plagiarize, and especially from a dead chick.
This book felt more like rambles of an entitled white woman more than an actual story. I appreciate the dig at societal issues, and the writing was very honest. However, the whole thing just felt monotonous... there wasn't a climax. And it was disappointing because the premise had so much potential and the writing is already gripping. I wish Kuang did more.

Weirdly enough I actually enjoyed this! I know there was the age-gap issue but honestly this was so hot and I get it, boys are meh. We like a MAN. And I'm glad that Jordan got what she deserves, someone who will give her all the love she's been missing throughout her life, albeit it being with an older man. 19 is young but she's clearly very mature at her age so it wasn't super icky to me tbh. And Pike is 38, I would say that's a hot age. I think the weirdest thing here if I'm being honest is her being a step-mother to her ex. That's most of the conflict I had but I mean, who cares??? I really dig this one. It had a heart.

Okay booktok, this is a YES for me!
Is it the best book ever? No. But did I enjoy the dragons and the romance? Abso-fking-lutely YES! Contrary to what some people were saying, I loved Xaden and Violet. Also, the dragons and the world building. Violet as the fmc was actually refreshing. She's not the typical strong female lead. She's literally a weakling, and it's nice to see how she transformed into what she is by the end of this book. Her growth didn't feel so forced. She did have two dragons and a lightning power but she wasn't super perfect even then. She could barely hold on to her dragon, and she couldn't aim. I'm kinda tired of fmc's who are just naturally good at everything. Violet had to work her ass off and I appreciate that it takes her abit longer than others. AND OMG XADEN RIORSON, MY MAN... I love a man who is down for his woman and that's Xaden right there. Once he finally gave in, HE REALLY GAVE IN. I really want to know him more! I feel like I wasn't given enough of him because the book was in Violet's pov. That one POV he had at the end of this book had me on my knees, I NEED MORE.
Ok, the miscomm trope, trust issues and shit, they need to figure this out because I was starting to hate Violet's ass towards the end... Like I get her??? But also, give my mans a chance!!!
Also, cried like a bitch because of my baby boy Liam!!! I expected it but I still sobbed at that chapter. He deserved more!
Also FKING DAIN!!! WHEN I CATCH YOU!!!
AND GODS, BRENNAN IS FKING ALIVE?????????

I would think it's crazy to dnf a book at 63% but I would. I just can't torture myself anymore. Another booktok hyped book that didn't live up to my expectations. This book is mediocre at best. I didn't love the writing. It seems so fanfic-ish. It has potential, but the writing itself felt so off. I just couldn't enjoy it. THIS BOOK NEEDS A GOOD EDITOR! I am not an expert on grammar nor the english language but there is something so off with the way the sentences/lines are sometimes structured. Mostly it feels like I am merely just reading a group of words... there's just no emotion in it for me or atleast the author has failed to convey that to me. I don't wanna say it was a bad book, but it needs more work. It's like they mistakenly published the first draft without editing. I genuinely wonder how it got out of the publishing room! It just wasn't ready. Also, I don't usually have a problem with unoriginal plots or overused tropes as long as I enjoy it but even the "banters" on this one couldn't save it. I kept trying not to cringe! It also didn't help that both the main characters seems so one dimensional. I don't get the hype over Kai. Also the constant calling of "darling" was starting to give me an ick. Also Paedyn wasn't much better. They just fell flat to me overall. So add that to me not liking the writing style... I just didn't have much reason to go on. Also didn't help that the chapters are long. It's just exhausting. And again, it's not the worst book out there, but I just felt so bored halfway of it. I don't even care about what happens to any of them at this point. Couldn't connect to any of them.
The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren

I just love it when the main characters have explosive chemistry, and Fizzy and Connor have more than that. I also liked the reality dating show concept and the thrill of of them sneaking, with Fizzy being the main and Connor the producer. Also enjoyed the witty banters. I am inlove with Felicity Chen! I feel like I resonated with her mostly and I found myself thinking, "Ah I wanna be like her". She's feisty, and direct. She says what she feels and is not sorry about it. She knows what she wants and I love that when she realized that she loved Connor, she went for it. She basically confessed to him thrice. It's actually kinda refreshing. And Connor is just such a good balance for her. The scene when Connor confessed about cheating actually took me aback, but I also understand why Fizzy's first instinct was to run. I may have been abit disappointed that Connor also got mad, but also made me think... hell nah, this is a real reaction. Both of them has had issues about infidelity and I agree they should've talked more but this also shows that they're just two normal, and sometimes flawed characters. I'm glad they were able to fix it up and ugh, they just make me giggle so much! I love their relationship, they're perfect for each other! This was such a good read for me.

I knew Freida would take me out of a book slump and she SO did! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one, everyone is totally bonkers! The student-teacher affair made me sick especially since Nate gives me the biggest ick. It's always the husband!!!
Also, that plot twist in the end??? I was screaming "NO WAY" and "WTF" over and over, not wanting to believe it... that's crazy! Jay is Hudson??? You're telling me Hudson is also having an affair with his teacher??? All along?????? It's still not sinking in right to me but Freida got me there.
Anyway, I don't care that Freida is recycling her plots and ideas, as long as I enjoy the reading experience, it's fine to me. I see alot of people hating this book, I don't really care, this was a wild ride for me.

I feel like it's a book that's written for a certain type of reader, which is not me. It's slow-paced but very poetic. It's not a bad book at all. I just don't have the kind of patience it needs....
