I'm not sure for whom this book was written. It's very well done in terms of portraying internalized toxic messages about fatness but it doesn't really go beyond that. I thought I was mostly immune from ED triggers but this book is basically like reading a diary of ED downward spiral.

I loved the premise of the book and the execution. I wish I had more of this world but at the same time the story seems better in its short form. I really enjoyed learning about the inspiration for the book from the afterword, it's such a clever reimagining of the real phenomenon.

Wow, I'm so impressed with the craft of this book. The way it's told is so innovative and gripping, I couldn't put it down.

I was about to dnf it at the beginning because it wasn't teaching me anything but I'm glad I persevered. I really liked how varied perspectives this book offered. For example I had no idea that many Muslim marriages go unregistered to strip women of their legal rights after divorce and that the marriage law is so behind the times. It also offered an interesting perspective on being queer and Muslim and on sex ed in Muslim spaces.

I really enjoyed the book until it turned up the romance factor. I didn't buy the couple nor their chemistry.

I don't have words for this book. It's so masterfully written and so incredibly sad. I hope this devastating world doesn't come to pass.

It's vulgar, exhibitionist and somehow boring at the same time.

I loved the story so much, having more context of the original relationship was exactly what I wished for from the original story. I wasn't super happy about the ending but I get why it was done like that.
Overall it was an enchanting retelling, very hard to put down.
