there were parts of this that i enjoyed more than jasper; i really liked the couple and thought they were good together. i thought the 3rd act conflict was done well. there were just some red flags that i didnt love! like cooper is sometimes way too possessive, he once grabbed her and hurt her, freddie made comments about not eating in order to fit into a dress, and cooper punched a wall. i also would have liked less spice. i kind of skipped it after like the third or fourth scene.
obviously, the writing slays. also, i know people have their issues with fanny, but i liked and related to her because she seemed like a people pleasing, anxious, and emotional girly!! i just didnt love the ending. i understand that societal conventions then were different, but i think i wouldve understood if she married her cousin considering when this was written, but i didnt like that they were raised like siblings. tbh, henry was growing on me!!! he was kind of a sweetie and i was hoping he would pull a mr. darcy and change
there are certainly parts of this that drag, but other than that, it is definitely one of my fav presidential biographies. as a george w bush hater, this was a great book. it had a lot of good information, and i felt like it did a solid job of emphasizing the seriousness of bush’s failures while also pointing out his successes

matthew is one of my favorite heroes everrrrr. he is just so sweet and steady and PERFECT for josie. i kept thinking that if i were josie, i wouldve cried like 50x throughout the book, and when she finally did cry the scene felt so raw and real! the way her and matthew dealt with the third act conflict was so perfect for them. the only reason this book wasnt a flawless five star was because there were some parts of the writing that bugged me a bit. some of the gen z language felt cringey, and the amount of times matthew said “look at me” made it feel a little stale and like he shouldve said something else. like i wish it would have been just one or two times less. the steamy scenes were great though. probably elena armas’ best🔥🔥

this book features a lot of discussion around intersectionality, so as a cis white woman, I am not the ideal reviewer, but I did really enjoy it. the aesthetic is super fun and cute, and the content makes this probably one of my favorite film books I've ever read! I was also very gratified that many of my favorite rom coms made it into this book, and I'm excited to check out the ones I haven't seen.
