Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life by Emily Nagoski

The name of the book suggested that I'd be surprised by it's content — well, I was not. Even though it's full of important facts about (female) sexuality, I happened to have the privilege of already knowing most of it, and so the rating comes from my personal experience, not from the book being bad. It could have been shorter AND LESS REPETITIVE, though. The audiobook was well narrated by Nagoski herself.

(I am glad that this book taught me barely anything new, and I feel so bad for all the women out there who can't relate. It's not your fault, but luckily it's never too late to debunk some myths and trust yourself <3)

Sain tietää tämän teoksen olemassaolosta vasta äskettäin, mutta kiinnostuin heti — enkä suotta, sillä tästä tuli juuri paras koskaan lukemani Canthin teos!!

Jane Austen, the goddess of sarcastic banter, tangible emotions and flawed yet oh-so-lovable characters. Elizabeth and Darcy are the OG enemies to lovers, I didn't remember the story being this great!! <3 can't believe this was written over 200 years ago.

I was afraid I wouldn't like the City of Bones as everyone's read it like 10 years ago in middle school, but I'm glad I gave it a try — and ended up liking it! It took me a while to get a proper grasp of the world, but once I was in, I could easily devour 100 pages in one sitting. The plot twist in the end was great and unpredictable, though I also hate it because...
I could guess pretty early on that Clary was Valentine's biological daughter, but there's no way Clary and Jace are actually siblings??!! For once when I was actually rooting for the protagonist's love story my hopes are crushed... hopefully not forever and it's just another sick game of Valentine's. Anything as long as Clary doesn't end up with Simon, I really don't like him and the idea of them as a couple even less (sorry Simon but you should stay in the friend zone or even be a rat idc).

can't wait to read the sequel!

Mikä edes on tavallista?

Meh. It was okay, but if it wasn't for uni I would never have considered reading this. The form of an epistolary novel definitely made the story feel faster than it probably was, and that was good.. tbh I just wanted this to be over so I'd get to read something else. It was a great example of romanticism as a literary genre, though — I'd say that every textbook theme of romanticism can be found in this book, and so I think it was an essential read for me as a literature student.

Vaikka olosuhteet muuttuvat, pohjimmiltaan sadan vuoden takainen ihminen on ongelmiltaan samanlainen nykyihmiseen verrattuna. Jotunin kirjoitustyyli alkoi pitkässä tekstissä hieman kyllästyttää (Arkielämää-romaani), mutta tällaisiin lyhyisiin novelleihin se sopii mainiosti :) Nasevaa, tunteikasta ja humoristista kerrontaa, sympaattinen aikamatka 1900-luvun alkuvuosiin. Yllätyin positiivisesti, ja tykkäsin tosi paljon <3

Saskia Maarleveld's narration made me finish the audiobook, she is so talented with all the different accents!! <3 I wish the story had contained more historical elements (=facts about the world wars, as I'm such a war nerd myself). This is rare for me to say, but I enjoyed the romance between Charlie and Finn more than anything else in the story (damn does my heart melt just thinking about them). Overall the book was a nice experience of travelling through time, though it also felt a bit dragging at times — I wouldn't have minded if it had been shorter.
