I can't believe it is oveeeeeeeeeeeeer :(((((((((

There was so much packed into this one. I'm not sure how to process it all. The audiobook was fantastic and made this such an amazing reading experience for me. Everything was so tense from the beginning and that only got worse and worse as the story progressed. Jade, as usual, was an incredibly complex main character and I loved going on this journey with her.

The plot was all over the place, once again! There was so much going on and so many threads tied to other things and SGJ looped it all back together. The Horror references were still the most fun and it was so entertaining to see how they all made sense within the plot. There were deaths, as to be expected, and a lot of emotional scenes throughout as well.

I can't help but feel like I wanted a little bit more out of the final chapter, though? It was a tone shift and I'm not sure it quite worked for me, after everything. I did love all the themes explored in the book and how SGJ went about tackling and developing them, but the closing chapter was a little underwhelming.

Such a fun read! I loved how fast paced this was and how it threw the reader right into the action. I had a great time trying to put the pieces together about Nora and her life. The tension was so high all the time and reading about her, Iris, and Wes working together to get out of the situation they were in was so engrossing that I couldn't put the book down! The plot development was also great and I liked pretty much all twists throughout. I will say that some of the backstory flashbacks took me a little bit out of the story, though.

So much fun! I was looking for a lighthearted and entertaining read and Vera delivered. The writing here was so accessible and I loved Vera's perspective and her character. There was such a humorous tone to the book, even with the murder mystery plot, and I was entertained right until the very end. Most twists caught me off guard as well!

Okay! This was a fun and quick read that wasn't as good, personally, as the hype made it out to be. I did very much enjoy the writing style and how the letters were used throughout the book! Iris and Kitt's antagonistic relationship at first was so fun and it was sweet when they started trying to bridge the gap between them.

The world-building, however... it left so much to be desired. I was super excited about the prospect of eerie creatures/monsters being part of a war and people being sucked into it by gods. Sadly, that was left mostly background? We got very little information about that aside from a few paragraphs and letters here and there. There was so much that could have been explored that wasn't because the focus had to remain on the romance.

I will read the next book to see how it all wraps up. Maybe it'll even address some of my complaints considering how this book ended.

Another great read from Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé! The writing captured my attention from the beginning and the opening chapter left me so curious about what was going on here. There was so much tension and mystery surrounding the plot and Sade herself was a very intriguing character.

I appreciated how Àbíké-Íyímídé dealt with heavy subjects here like grief and sexual assault. Nothing was gratuitous and there weren't any scenes to shock the reader into feeling something. That made this an even more emotional read for me. How those particular elements were tackled and developed showed just how good of a writer Àbíké-Íyímídé is.

A few plot points and foreshadowing were a bit obvious and predictable, however. I wouldn't say me figuring out what was happening took much away from the story, but I would have liked to be surprised... This was still a great read, and I will definitely pick up whatever else Àbíké-Íyímídé publishes.

Uma leitura beeem estranha. Gostei do comentário em relação ao capitalismo e patriarcado em algumas histórias. Outras foram escatológicas demais pra mim.

Took me a while to get through this, but I did enjoy it! The world-building was pretty interesting in the way it tied with the Empire's history and what was expected of people. I very much enjoyed the murder mystery investigation bits and how that was developed throughout--I just wish we had gotten the reveals about that through another way and not a monologue. The final chapters also posed some really intriguing questions about morality and left me curious about what's to come!

One thing, I don't think Swan was successful at writing female characters despite one being the narrator. I hope for some improvement in regard to that as the trilogy goes on.
