these three novellas are absolutely brilliant, simple in their stories it added a certain charm to both the plot and the characters that isn’t present in the main series of asoiaf. i thought that i wouldn’t connect with dunk or egg because of how short of time we had with them, but grrm continues to prove me wrong. although not grrm’s most intricate or accomplished novel (that right is reserved for the main series) dunk and egg had such heart that i couldn’t help but fall in love with them. is it treason to say i am more excited and wish more for another dunk and egg novel rather than winds of winter? well i’m saying it.

this book was interesting, although le fanu villianizes carmilla into the stereotypical lesbian vampire (violent, seductress, manipulative) machado’s footnotes and introduction reclaim an inherently queer story while allowing the text to present itself as it was written (albeit in all its heteronormativity and homophobia), machado is brilliant and allows for affirmation of the novel’s queerness and its real life queer basis

absolutely adored this novel, the richness of this fictional dynasty that grrm created rivals that of the best fantasy books that have been written. although reads like a history textbook i found myself entirely captivated by the targaryens and westerosi history. he is an absolute genius and i will forever love grrm.

although better than eloise’s story, this novel fell short in so many ways i actually really loved hyancith and liked the developing relationship with garret, garret rubbed me the wrong way he wasn’t insufferable but didn’t really contribute to the story in any meaningful way, this book was just boring albeit fast paced

i absolutely loved the first 200 or so pages of this book as i felt francesca and michael were both fully fleshed out but towards the end michael had started feeling manipulative which i hated but the ending of this novel was very sweet and the care and love that francesa and michael felt for john was well-written

absolutely loved this novel, cormac mccarthy is brilliant and the themes of meaningless and inevitable violence were honed to perfection

this book was so dense but the prose was beautiful i really wanted to love this book but it was a but of a slog when marco polo described some of the cities, while other descriptions were brilliant i loved the interactions between marco polo and kublai khan

i expected much more from this novel and although thought-provoking the world-building fell short in its characterization and detail huxley’s writing style is dense and i usually enjoy heavy writing but throughout the book much of its descriptions felt unnecessary

the concept of this book was so interesting and i genuinely thought i would love this novel but each story was shallow in its telling and its characters each myth that was introduced felt extremely surface-level i only liked a couple of the short stories but those were far and few

i wasn’t expecting much from this book but i had some hope that it would be decent i really enjoyed the 4th bridgerton book, but this novel was a bit of a slog. phillip was insufferable and i never really saw what eloise seems to see in him, i thought the plot was interesting enough but the pacing was off and there was some very heavy topics that were handled extremely carelessly, both eloise and phillip were meant to be fleshed out but they never really hit the mark
