i really wanted to love this book but i think it fell short in a lot of ways i don’t think any of the relationships were fleshed out and each character felt shallow in their motivations and traits, the prose was beautiful but felt forced at times there weren’t moments in which i really connected with any character if the book was more descriptive and atmospheric in its setting i might have liked it better

i loved this book so much it took me a little while to get use to tolkien’s writing style but after the first few pages i felt like i was bilbo i loved bilbo so much and connected with gandalf i just felt that i didn’t particularly care that much about the dwarves but this is such a great fantasy book i loved it so much and can totally see how other writers are inspired by tolkien

absolutely loved this play it was meticulously crafted and the way that black and white contradict each other and are mirror images at the same time is astounding the fact that black has more reason to be more like white and the fact that we don’t really know that much about white is so good and adds so much complexity to the novel i really loved this play cormac mccarthy is brilliant

i actually really loved this book more than i thought i would i really connected with the characters and i don’t read a lot of romance but i couldn’t put this book down i had a few issues with it like colin being unreasonably angry with pen (although i understand that he was jealous) it just rubbed me the wrong way the yearning from both penelope and colin was fantastic i really loved lady danbury’s and pen’s dynamic and honestly the writing was extremely elevated i don’t know if i would have loved the book as much as i did if i hadn’t seen the show not sure if i’ll read the other books in the series

vuong’s writing style is raw and visceral the entire book oozed with emotion and poetic prose but the plot itself felt disconnected i loved that the first half focused on little dog and his mother but as the story progressed i felt like the characters were underdeveloped and i didn’t feel a connection to the story

i really wanted to like this book but it was kinda awful..i think that the symbolism and themes had absolutely no nuance in any way and were just thrown into your face than actually well-written and the characters were boring the writing went around in circles the whole book was just repetitive
