I’m not entirely sure what I just read, but it wasn’t a positive experience.

It’s basically a thank you letter to everyone she’s ever met. I think the audio medium was the best option. Her voice is a home for me.

It’s giving Daisy Jones and the Six, but this came out first so that’s one less than I can blame on Hoover.

A lot of her books leave me conflicted. I Can always argue either way with everything she writes. They’re easy to get through, but there’s always way more going on than there needs to be. I felt the end of this book was Hoover defending herself to her haters and why she chooses characters to fall in love the way she wants them to. I hated the overuse of the word “transvestite”. I hated Warren with my entire being.

A lot was happening, yet I was incredibly bored the whole time.

Very slow to start, gets very good in the middle, goes slow again for a stint, then picks up. The part where he meets her parents was very relatable. There were many parts I couldn’t stop smiling and feeling hopeful about my own future.

Everything she writes is practically the same, but this one was much more adventurous. I still don’t really know how the two are going to make a life together without one compromising their entire livelihood.

I think it’s an important read for those who are unfamiliar with lgbtq+ individuals and how vastly different their perspectives and ideals are. Not every queer person thinks the same or has the same values. Additionally, it’s important for every person, queer or not, to understand that just because someone comes out as one thing, doesn’t mean they aren’t still struggling to find their identity and may evolve from their initial perspective of themselves.

So necessary. I recommend every parent to read more books like this.

I personally didn’t vibe with the main female character, but I always enjoy Lauren’s writing and character diversity.
