Whether you’re in a relationship and you constantly feel lack of positive growth (could be a you thing, a them thing, or a both of you thing), you have a friend or family member who lacks emotional maturity, or you work with children/adults of abuse or neglect, I HIGHLY recommend this book to you.
I’m listening to the audio version, but it’s also a physical/digital book. I have a library card and access free books with it through the Libby app.
This book is not just about adults. It’s about you, it’s about your siblings, it’s about your friends, your partern(s), your coworkers. It’s about people in our society and their responses to their childhoods.
You should read these books if:
1. You’ve ever been a child.
2. You have a child in your life.
This author talks about the importance of self reflection if you’re consistently having unfulfilling or negative thoughts about relationships in your adult life. “Safety lies in familiarity.”
She states that these books are about acknowledging your parents’ emotional behaviors without placing blame.
It’s about understanding YOUR reaction to your life by looking at your childhood and the childhoods of your parents.

Not a lot happened and the ties into motherhood could’ve been elaborated on more.

This was very cute, but I’m not sure it has a purpose.

Absolutely nothing happens in the first half. The writing was dull and the purpose was drawn out.

I always want to enjoy Gaiman’s work, but it always falls flat for me.
The movie was also very mid.

Reading the author’s note put the book into perspective. I had these thoughts throughout the book, but wasn’t sure if she’d acknowledge them.

Maybe I’m just in a specific mood, but this felt bland and non-exciting.
