I loved this book from start to finish for a number of reasons. For one, the characters. I was instantly captivated by the unique and diverse cast in this book. They were all well fleshed-out and even minor characters were afforded development, while major characters, especially Bree and Sel, had nonlinear and very realistic growth throughout the story. I also absolutely loved the worldbuilding and lore created by the author. It was unique and creative, and it kept me enthralled throughout. The addressing of grief, racism, and other issues throughout the book was also very eye-opening, and the themes of Black identity were prevalent and strong, which is something that will stick with me for a long time after reading this. Finally, I adored the way the plot details all came together in the end to create an amazing plot twist and set up an apprehensive cliffhanger leading into the sequel, which I cannot wait to read.

I absolutely loved Pip's development in this book as well as how it addressed her coping through the events of the previous book. Pip and Ravi's relationship was also adorable and I was rooting for them until the end. The twists and turns throughout the book kept me on the edge of my seat, worried for Pip and how she'd get out of all the sticky situations she found herself in. I loved how the book let everything connect and come full circle from the first book, which actively helped to illustrate her evolution as a character since the first book. My only complaint was about the ending, since I was hoping for a more resolved ending and a Pip and Ravi reunion. Otherwise, it was a long-anticipated read that lived up to my expectations.
