Very gothic mystery with a dash of 1930s. That includes everyone who is not a wealthy white male to be depicted very unfavourably. And there's an unnecessary ramance as well.
Nice period mystery. I didn't like Amberly's "I somehow know and guessed a lot of random things about this mystery" thing. For me it came out of nowhere and felt a little too convenient. But still enjoyable.
A very pleasant Sci-Fi story. Nothing much happens, but to me that was the beauty of it. I was interesting enough and calming to read. It's the same with zombie apocalypse for me - I like action, but there's always not enough of day to day life for me. This book fixes it for me with Sci-Fi :)
This was great, loved every second of it. Dark and twisted, and messed up. The reveals were quite satisfying. Not to mention the premise is just sooo good! Loved it!
This was very atmospheric and I enjoyed it quite a lot. But if you know the history of Empress Sissy (Elizabeth of Austria), the mystery aspect is not that mysterious to you.
Thoroughly researched and well written story, with lots of personal accounts. Very well paced and for a nonfiction keeps you very interested. Would have been 4 starts of not for the use of n-word quite a few times. I understand the book is from the 60-s, but the first time it really shocked me.
I was intrigued by the premise of the book. And I liked the first part with camping and first encounters. But then it turned into some kind of gun advertising. Also logic was lacking at times. I was considering giving it 2 starts but the book just had to have a "cliffhanger" for the possible sequel I guess.
I couldn't get myself interested in this book. Couldn't grasp the story or it's meaning, couldn't care about any of the characters. The writing style was also not for me. Just as the audiobook narration.
