RIP Salman Rushdie. The strongest voice I've read in ages; it's the spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down.

The title is very misleading; this is an interesting book but it's about people who are only trying to get their own loved ones to safety. There might be something to say about protecting personal interests as an act of resistance, but the book doesn't go out of its way to say it. It was definitely interesting and I like the break from the clear-cut heroes vs villains narrative many WWII tales spin, but it wasn't terribly cohesive and not at all the tale the title suggests you're going to get.
