I thoroughly enjoy Chakraborty's fantasy world, I think it's so rich and colorful that it makes the story more vivid and awe-inspiring. Her protagonist has a great voice and being told Amina's adventurous tale in such an open and casual way was entertaining.

Honestly, maybe if I had picked up this book some other time I might have not enjoyed as much as I did (I fully believe my mood reading would affect it). It has its flaws, though small ones when comparing at other more popular books out there, and can see why it would not work for some readers but in this I fully believe it to be a matter of preference really. I for one thoroughly enjoyed.
The world building and magic system of the story took a little while to click for me but once it did I was hooked. The plot's intent on making everyone a player works well and even though you understand what should/will happen, the time travelling keeps you on your toes. I loved that the changes in the past/present/future were a constant reminder, that is a bit of a pet peeve of mine when in time travelling stories there is little focus on consequences but this was not the case with this book. The characters motivations could change anything. And I love that there are sides but you can understand them all perfectly, it is not so black and white (at least not right up until the end). And beyond the motivations of the characters, the ties and relationships add that complicated layer that makes it all truly interesting. Especially Esta and Harte's relationship, very much looking forward to their development. Both are interesting characters and they have a good dynamic, the root of the conflict with them being trust just makes it all that better.
Some twists I saw coming, some I didn't. Can't wait for what's coming next.
