This is a cute book and appropriately advertised. It is a cozy story, following a lesbian couple, one of whom is a Mage and the other a runaway from a tyrannical queen’s guard. They establish a book and tea store through which a revolving door of subplots enter.

Set in a dystopian world plagued by famine, our protagonist, a chef, is faced with exploring themes related to who we are when the world is at its worst. Confronted with needing to decide who and where she will be in order to survive the world, the protagonist finds herself in the Land of Milk and Honey. Surrounded by an abundance of resources in an otherwise drab and depleted world covered in smog, we follow the protagonist’s internal exploration of questions pertaining to self and morals alongside a romance set in a world of mesmerizing food and cooking.

Edited by Alice Wong, Disability Visibility is a collection of stories from members of the Disability Community. The collection is comprised of four sections: Being, Becoming, Doing, and Connecting. The stories captured within this collection provoked in me a full spectrum of emotion. Some stories were informative, others challenged my preconceived notions of disability, many had me in tears for the ways in which I was reminded how we can all love and care for one another better. I believe this is a must read for all and would be of particular interest for those interested in disability justice.

I absolutely loved the way in which the author described scenes - reading the book felt like watching a beautiful movie in my mind’s eye and I felt as if I, too, were a part of this magical world. I withheld a higher rating for the book because I felt the character development could be stronger (in particular having more complex characters to match the descriptive world they were in) and the plot could have progressed more easefully (I noted some gaps and jumps). I look forward to reading the second book to dive back into this world.

A light hearted regency era reads that brings diversity to a predominantly white and patriarchal trope. With our main character, we have a strong female character of Arab origin who is both business savvy and a romantic at heart. The rating is not higher as the plot is fairly predictable and characters could have been more complex.
